If you are living off of food stamps lentils and
rice, and cheap
pasta on special occasions is really all you can afford.
I've tried
rice pasta in the past (years ago) and not really got
on with.
It tastes amazing in a rainbow bowl with grilled peppers, sun - dried tomatoes, rocket and pomegranates; or as a dip for your crackers, sweet potato wedges or crudités; used as a sauce for your
pasta; spread thickly
on some sueprfood bread; stirred into some brown
rice with a little miso or eaten straight from the bowl with a spoon!
And last but not least, the Israeli couscous, which is basically regular couscous
on steroids, has the most wonderful al - dente texture that never gets soggy in the broth, like
rice or
pastas do.
We had them yesterday with
pasta, but I plan
on doing
rice and gravy for our next batch, which we'll be eating tomorrow!

on at least 10 additional minutes — might be longer because of the brown
rice.

Low Calorie, Low Fat Creamy Mushroom Sauce is great for a topping
on pasta,
rice or even just veggies.
I ran out of
pasta and ate the left over sauce
on some brown
rice, chickpeas and green peas.
Serve hot
on top of
rice or whole grain
pasta.
So I will make the basic kale sauce for both of us, cook whole wheat
pasta for me,
rice pasta for him, sprinke tosted nuts
on my
pasta, and he'll sprinkle parmesan
on his.
I cook quinoa or brown
rice pasta at the same time they cook, adding a boiled vegetable like asparagus or broccoli and drizzling with tahini
on quinoa and pre-made pesto

pasta.

on ordinary Jambalaya using that instead of
rice.

pasta on first night, then had leftovers with

OK, here are some favorites we've been cooking up at my place: - vegetable curry (grind my own whole spices, use whatever veggies we get in our weekly CSA share; radishes / beets, eggplant, squash, greens, etc)- quick kale (sauteed with coconut oil, chili flakes, garlic, [lemon grass], soy sauce, lemon juice)- pac choi w / sauteed mushrooms «chinese» style (with fish sauce,
rice wine vinegar, jalepeno / chili, soy sauce, etc)- roasted radishes w / poached eggs - «teamwork
pasta» — this is your recipe for pepper and cheese
pasta, but it helps having two sets of hands to make it in our house... we put an egg
on this too of course - tuna
pasta (chopped onion, garlic, lemon zest, chili flakes, tuna, olives — easily adaptable to what you already have in the house and like)- roast chicken
on friday - roasted sweet potatoes - omlets - challa french toast
But if you are looking to cut back
on pastas and
rice, and eat more veggies, a spiralizer is a great $ 30 investment.
Make friends with nutritional yeast (nooch), a natural plant - food that has a cheesy / nutty flavour as well as often being nutritionally fortified; I sprinkle nooch
on pasta, popcorn, pizza,
rice, etc..

Ever since I saw the recipe for Lemony Risoni
on Emmie's blog, I've been wanting to make something with this
pasta camouflaged in the shape of
rice.
I never think to use
pasta as a side dish, I also always fall back
on rice.
Try it
on rice, chicken, or even
pasta.
And no hate
on the brown
rice pasta — sure, there's a time and place where only the real deal will do, but I'm continually impressed with the texture and flavor of the br varieties out there.
My favourite way to serve this up is
on a bed of brown
rice and quinoa (I do a 50 - 50 mix, soaked overnight then cooked in organic vegetable stock), but you could even serve this over some wholewheat
pasta, or cold
on top of salad greens.
Packed with protein, this
pasta or
rice substitute can be used for breakfast right
on to lunch or dinner.
On baked potatoes,
pasta,
rice, or with chips as a dip, this cheese is the perfect addition to pretty much any vegan meal.

I substituted the snap peas for blanched green beans and for
pasta I used Vietnamese brown
rice noodles, as that's what I had
on hand.
