For the
soup shown
in this post I did not use brown
rice.
I used chicken stock
in place of the water and bullion, and added some steamed white
rice for a heartier
soup.
I've lived
in Nepal for almost 6 months and 4 months with a local family were I ate dhal bhaat (lentil
soup,
rice and some kind of curry — > spinach / saag was my favorite) twice a day.
This
soup has chunks of chicken, lots of
rice, and some veggies thrown
in.

Meanwhile, when
soup has 20 minutes left to cook, bring
rice and remaining 1-1/4 cups broth to a boil
in a small saucepan.
I'd saute all the vegetables until softened (vs boiling to soften,) then maybe cook the
rice in all the broth
in the
soup pot vs separately.
Thaw the
soup in the refrigerator overnight before combining with the
rice and reheating.
When the
soup has 20 minutes left to cook, simmer 3/4 cup long grain white
rice in a saucepan with 1-1/4 cups chicken broth.
All of my spidey senses are pointing me
in the direction of hot dhal, spicy
rice and delicious
soup.
But it seems like it would be a great addition and more protein than barley, pasta, or
rice, which is what I usually use
in soups.
A good breakfast means different things
in different countries: miso
soup and
rice in Japan; cooked beans
in Egypt; bacon and eggs
in the U.S. — or cold cereal with skim milk.
Normally when I use wild
rice, it's
in a
soup of some kind.
Stir
in diced tomatoes with juice, tomato
soup, Worcestershire sauce, and cooked brown
rice.
Chana dal can be used
in so many ways as an addition to
soups, curries, salads, over
rice or other grains (I like mine with quinoa).
They're perfect
in soups, with
rice, pureed for dips or as a stand - alone side dish.
Stir
in sweet
rice cake balls to make a traditional Korean
soup called danhobak juk.
