Ulva Island, in the heart of the Paterson Inlet, is a predator - free environment for rare birds including the South Island saddleback, mohua and rifleman species.
We also included species postulated to descend from deep nodes in their orders to break up potentially long branches, such as the kea for parrots (Psittaciformes) and the rifleman for songbirds (Passeriformes).
