Not only was that assertion completely at odds with the uncertain state of the existing science, but it was contradicted by the
study itself,
in which Dr. McKee and her colleagues acknowledged that several
other factors, besides prior participation
in football, may influence CTE
risk and disease severity, including factors
other than cumulative hits to the head, and admitted that it was even «unclear» what roles concussions and repetitive subconcussive hits play
in CTE
risk, disease severity, and progression.
The high percentage of athletes reporting that they continued to play despite experiencing concussion symptoms, while similar to the rates reported
in other studies, is concerning, as the failure to diagnose concussions
in athletes can lead to further damage to the brain before full recovery, expose them to the cumulative effects of injuries and increased
risk of second impact syndrome.
One way, I believe, to address the problem of under - reporting and increase the chances a concussion will be identified early on the sports sideline may be to rely less on athletes themselves to remove themselves from games or practices by reporting concussion symptoms (which the most recent
study shows occurs at a shockingly low rate, [9] or on game officials and sideline observers to observe signs of concussion and call for a concussion assessment, but to employ technology to increase the chances that a concussion will be identified by employing impact sensors designed to monitor head impact exposure
in terms of the force of hits (both linear and rotational), number, location, and cumulative impact,
in real time at all levels of football, and
in other helmeted and non-helmeted contact and collision sports, where practical, to help identify high -
risk impacts and alert medical personnel on the sideline so they can consider performing a concussion assessment.

study to examine the incidence and
risk factors for further ACL injury

Most
studies of homebirth
in other countries have found no statistically significant differences
in perinatal outcomes between home and hospital births for women at low
risk of complications.36, 37,39 However, a recent
study in the United States showed poorer neonatal outcomes for births occurring at home or
in birth centres.40 A meta - analysis
in the same year demonstrated higher perinatal mortality associated with homebirth41 but has been strongly criticised on methodological grounds.5, 42 The Birthplace
in England
study, 43 the largest prospective cohort
study on place of birth for women at low
risk of complications, analysed a composite outcome, which included stillbirth and early neonatal death among
other serious morbidity.
Intrapartum and neonatal death rates were compared with those

And while the science may be disputed, depending on who is funding the
study, as to whether commonly used food dyes such as Yellow 5, Red 40 and 6
others made from petroleum pose a «rainbow of

in children, cancer (
in animal
