The TIGER discretionary
grant program is a DOT program that invests in innovative surfacetransportation projects, including multimodal and multi-jurisdictional projects, which willhave a significant impact on the Nation, a metropolitan area, or a region:
road, rail, transit, and port projects that promise to achieve critical national objectives (e.g.,
safety, state ofgood repair, economic competitiveness, livability, sustainability).
Subject to this section, the Secretary of Transportation shall make and administer a compliance,
safety, and accountability
grant program to assist States, local governments, and other entities and persons with motor carrier
safety and enforcement on highways and other public
roads, new entrant
safety audits, border enforcement, hazardous materials
safety and security, consumer protection and household goods enforcement, and other programs and activities required to improve the
safety of motor carriers as determined by the Secretary.
Analysis of the data from the pre and post questionnaires and an examination of the case studies indicated that providing
grant opportunities to schools elevated
road safety as an issue and encouraged school community engagement.
The
grants were offered to provide incentive for schools to develop
Road Safety Guidelines using the Getting it Together resource as a guide.
