I think we should give Sanchez a free
role where he can
roam between
central striker and right wing.
This would remove the option of fielding Sánchez as a No. 10, but could see the Chilean even more effective in a wide
role due to the increased space opened up by the lack of a
central attacking midfielder behind the striker, allowing him to
roam inside at will.
Wenger often seems to give him a free
roaming role which allows him to move from the
central striker position and back out to the wing, much like Theo Walcott does.
I don't think it was really a 3 -5-2, as Ozil pretty clearly looked to me to be operating from the left flank, with license to
roam, as opposed to in a
central playmaking
role, but obviously the differences between the two formations are subtle and they're likely to blend into each other in any given match.
