In writer / director Chloe Zhao's The Rider, Brady (Brady Jandreau) is forced to rethink his life after a traumatic
rodeo accident.
«The Indian cowboy is such a uniquely American contradiction,» says Zhao, who based «The Rider» on Jandreau's personal experience — namely,
a rodeo accident so severe that mounting another horse could mean the difference between life and death.
Zhao met him before he experienced
a rodeo accident in real life and wrote the screenplay around him.
He understands more than most what life looks like after injury, often visiting his friend Lane (Lane Scott), a once daredevil who is in rehab and can no longer walk or speak after
his rodeo accident.
The following year, Jandreau sustained a severe injury to his skull in
a rodeo accident, effectively ending his riding career.
He has a steel plate in his skull and a gnarled set of fingers from
