I think the loss
of rollover nights is a bigger issue than a number of people seem to think it is (based on what I've read elsewhere).

On the surface, it would appear that a Spire member would effectively have two counts, with the Platinum
Rollover nights for such a member going a long way to renew Platinum in the following year.
Members are only eligible to rollover qualifying nights in excess of those nights required to qualify for a member's elite status level at the end of the calendar year (Members can
rollover nights in excess of 10 eligible nights for Silver, in excess of 40 eligible nights for Gold and in excess of 60 eligible nights for Diamond).
In addition, after 2017, the company will
eliminate rollover nights and offers to purchase status for those who don't requalify, the former starting after 2017 nights roll over to 2018, the latter starting at the beginning of 2019.
The program is introducing Membership Levels, Blue, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond, as well
as rollover nights towards the next reward.
Rollover nights allowed you to apply an excess nights from one year, toward Platinum Elite status in the following year.

It's interesting to see Hilton

The loss
of rollover nights will be a blow to a lot of Marriott Rewards loyalists and I'd certainly be more annoyed about this loss if I didn't think I'd be hitting Lifetime Platinum status soon.
They are introducing new Hertz benefits for Platinum members on both sides and
eliminating rollover nights (a current Marriott only benefit) after 2018.
Any elite qualifying nights earned through a promotional offer (i.e. double night credit) are also eligible and will be counted in the calculation for
elite rollover nights.
Starting in April, the more than 70 million members of Hilton Honors will enjoy new perks, including the highest elite point earning potential in the industry, the option to
rollover nights and the opportunity to gift status.
The calculation for 2019
rollover nights would be as follows: 5 rollover nights from 2018 + 45 nights from stays in 2019 — 40 nights needed for Gold — 5 rollover nights from 2018 (now expired) = 5 elite rollover nights into 2020
