As well as strengthening the lateral
rotators, stretching muscles
at the back of the shoulder is important.
I looked

Another common problem
at the hip is weak hip abductors and external

In order to increase the range of motion
at a joint, you need to focus on reducing muscle tension in the opposing muscle group — in this case the external
rotators, as well as strengthening the internal
rotators themselves.
Assessing in flexion also removes any additional restriction coming from the external
rotators that cross the hip joint
at the front (e.g. iliopsoas, sartorius, pectineus and adductors brevis and magnus).
A stronger
rotator cuff will let you bench bigger weights and keep you injury free
at the same time.
There are 2 main shoulder positions for strengthening the
rotator cuff — neutral (
at your side) and abducted (out to the side).
But look
at it this way: if you do
rotator - cuff exercises, a few years down the road you will still be able to do heavy chest, back, shoulder and arm work, whereas those who did not strengthen their inner shoulders will be using pansy - ass weights trying in vain to save whatever muscle they already built.

Here's the problem: Since the weight never travels up or down and remains in the same horizontal plane of motion, the
rotator cuff — which is supposedly responsible for directing rotational movements
at the shoulder — never gets activated.
A well - designed strength training program should include
at least one workout per week for the shoulder
rotator muscles.
My rehabilitation recommendation for advanced PF strengthening is to perform 6 core and PF stabilization exercises each day, including your Kegel exercise (both quick flicks and long holds) and exercises aimed
at strengthening inner thighs, low back, transversus abdominus, and hip
rotators (you can find four physical therapist - guided workouts on the Hab It: Pelvic Floor DVD).
