She is recognized for her work as the publisher of the alternative art review, High Performance Magazine, which ran as a quarterly from 1977 to 1998, and as co-founder of 18th Street Arts Center, along with Linda Frye Burnham, founder and editor of High Performance Magazine.

«rAdicAl preEsEncE: Black Performance in Contemporary Art» ran at the Grey Art Gallery through December 7, 2013, and at the Studio Museum in Harlem through March 9, 2014.

Along her artistic practice exploring female subjectivity through photo and video works, she is the founding director of Franklin Furnace, an artist - run space founded in 1976 supporting the exploration, promotion, and preservation of artist books, temporary installation, performance art, as well as online works.
