But, in reality, it appears that when Labour
said our Eurosceptic promises were all hot air, they were right; that when Heseltine said that in government every Conservative Prime Minister is Europhile, he was right; that when UKIP said Conservatives were not to be trusted on Europe, they were right; that when I and others said that the Conservative Party had changed, and that Cameron and Hague were genuinely convicted Eurosceptics who understood what must be done and would not let us down, we were wrong.

said Eurosceptic MPs could accept a delay of «a month or two» for practical reasons — but making provision for it now was akin to «planning for failure».

Mark Reckless, a leading
eurosceptic among the 81 Conservative backbenchers who defied David Cameron last month,
said an EU referendum was a matter of «when» and not «if» after the Tory revolt.

Eurosceptic Conservative backbencher Jacob Rees - Mogg asked whether, rather than allow the independent Office for Budget Responsibility to make the forecasts, Osborne had «taken back control so that you can fiddle the figures».
Leading
Eurosceptic MP Steve Baker
said he believed it was inevitable some members of the Cabinet would walk if they felt forced to take what he described as a flimsy deal on the renegotiation.

say the issue will be forced back on to the agenda after party conferences when Douglas Carswell, who defected from the Tories to Ukip, is expected to win a Clacton - on - sea byelection and become the
Eurosceptic party's first MP.

saying the new national living wage would act as a huge pull factor for migrants.

Eurosceptic opinion is altogether more newsworthy particularly in the rightwing popular press... The party depends for its support on the Conservative mainstream and the more orthodox backbenchers.
The leader of the opposition
said: «My position is no — we don't want an in / out referendum,» causing some of his own
eurosceptic backbenchers to gasp.
The latest news follows reports that Cameron is preparing to «purge» his Cabinet of
eurosceptics, with Chris Grayling
said to be top of the list.
Mr Klaus, a natural
eurosceptic,
said last week his reluctance to sign the treaty because of concerns it could open up Czech citizens from property claims by Germans ousted after the second world war had been addressed.
Lord Rose used a speech to lobby journalists to make a direct appeal to those who have previously wanted out,
saying that he wanted to «bring those

said he would be opposed to any significant extension of ties to the customs union, adding: «We must not give in to ultimatums.»
The data suggests that many older voters will switch away from the
eurosceptic party in 2015 with less than three quarters of Ukip voters in the 2014 European elections
saying they could see themselves doing the same in a General Election.
Conservative MP Nadine Dorries
says Europe is «dying on its feet» as she joins a group of
Eurosceptic MPs trying to engineer a Commons vote on an EU referendum.

MP Steve Baker, a key figure in Vote Leave,
said: «It would be a complete farce if ministers had to prove their
Eurosceptic credentials before campaigning.»
After the 2015 election, this culminated in the suspension of collective cabinet responsibility during the referendum campaign, so that
Eurosceptic ministers need not resign their posts, despite publicly contradicting everything that the PM and Chancellor were
saying.
Horwood also attacked
eurosceptic Tory MPs,
saying:
Andrew Duff, leader of the Lib Dems in the European parliament,
said he was sorry to lose Mr Karim and had not had him down as a
Eurosceptic.
Prominent
eurosceptic John Baron
said the Carswell defection was «unfortunate» because it «could create the impression we are divided».
In response to Boris Johnson's rejection of their advances, one bullish Tory MP
said, «Whether we win or lose [the referendum], the next leader of the Conservatives will be a
eurosceptic».
