Sleep paralysis is a symptom of
narcolepsy, a sleep disorder that causes severe, excessive daytime sleepiness, Dr. Kline
says.
While it's most common in people with
narcolepsy, it's also linked to lack of sleep and an irregular sleep schedule,
says Dr. Walia.
Why the docs don't share more info I can't
say, but most narcoleptics are totally ignorant of the fact that the sleepiness of
narcolepsy is only a symptom of the underlying endocrine disorder, and only one symptom at that.
That
said, not all sleep problems are so easily treated and could signify the presence of a sleep disorder such as apnea, restless legs syndrome,
narcolepsy, or another clinical sleep problem.
