I have never made
a salad in a mason jar, but I LOVE to eat / drink my smoothies out of mason jars.
Before I learned to pack
salad in mason jars or to make salads with wilt - free greens, I used to pack up all my salad components in little individual containers.

We go camping every weekend, so I enjoy making

As with many of my
mason jar salads I love the way the tomatoes and cucumbers marinate
in the dressing.
Based on my experiences, the
mason jar salads were really easy to prepare, made lunches super convenient during the week, and for the most part tasted great (I will explain more about this
in a bit).

If you wanted to make this
salad ahead of time, you can stack it up
in a
mason jar with the
salad dressing at the bottom and the most delicate greens at the top or pack the
salad dressing separately to add when you're ready to enjoy.
The idea behind a
mason jar salad is to pack all of the ingredients
in such a way that nothing goes soggy — the dressing goes at the bottom of the
jar followed by all of your other amazing
salad goodies (leafy greens always on the top).
I still had a little left over
in my
mason jar, so I put it on some more
salad today and it was glorious!
Because kale is so hearty, it can keep a few days
in the fridge already dressed, but it also works well as a
mason jar salad so you can take it to work with you.

I also like them with red pepper alfredo or

I will usually combine the ingredients for the dressing

mason jar, shake it vigorously, refrigerate it, and forget about it until I am ready to dress my
salad.

mason jar with the plastic storage lids.
Mix dressing together (my favourite way to mix dressings is
in a
mason jar and shake shake shaken) pour dressing over
salad and mix together!

I love my layered
mason jar salads, we regularly stack our fridge with them, my lovely kiddos take them to school, my lovely husband pops one
in his bag for work and if I am home here and a bit busy it's so great...
