I've just had the best post-launch week of
sales of my short story, Something in the Cellar, in the UK, and that's just been through blogging, and tweeting.
I was quite successful in my promotion in NOT selling copies of the novel, as well as very successful in not getting reviews, and resoundingly not successful in getting new
sales of the short story book.
My Kingdom for a Review My interest in using KDP wasn't to later sell copies of that promoted novel, but indeed to induce some positive reviews, in the hopes that might promote, fiendish marketer I am,
the sale of my short story collection, which had been published by a small press after my novel's self - publication.
Not only am I seeing the increase in sales, in one occasion a triple digit percentage increase in sales, for the title that had been free, but also in
sales of short stories.
There was probably one
sale of the short story book, maybe two.

You can publish on it using Smashwords — and, as I suggested with PubIt, you might want to compare
your sales of short stories (or anything priced under $ 2.99) via the Smashwords premium catalog with sales directly through Amazon to see where you get the most money for your time investment — or you can go straight to Amazon through the KDP platform.

story short the code was for the CATs and we did a bunch
of other rigorous tests with Stevinson Porsche but at the end
of the day, they ordered new CATs for my GT2... not sure if you guys know this but OEM CATs are expensive and for them to go above and beyond like that after the
sale, really spoke volumes for me considering a lot
of other dealers i know would have said «Tough Luck».
My only MG is a 5 - year - old collection
of short stories (
short stories, collections and otherwise, are always hard to sell), but I was never tempted to go ahead with the novels I'd had planned for those characters, not based on those ebook
sales.

short stories fall somewhere just above poetry and below everything else in terms
of their ability to generate
sales, which is painful news for the
short -
story - lover — and even more devastating for the
short story writer.

short story, a novella, or a complete Book 1) can be a great way to boost
sales of your other books.

sales rankings are anything to go by, readers aren't keen on the idea
of $ 2.99

of Jackson's storytelling craft and introducing very widely a writer whose first novel, The Road Through the Wall (1948), had disappointing
sales but cannily and hauntingly depicted the humorous, horrific and sometimes macabre irony
of suburban life.
Somewhat OT, but in response to a few comments here — as a new indie author (one novel and two
short stories so far), is there a certain minimum output I'll need to gain substantial traction in terms
of readership and
sales?
KDP and KU exclusivity, in my case, seems increasingly a place for top
of sales funnel projects (i.e. prequels,
short stories and novellas.)
Those
of us who write more than that, and who can also do
short stories and collections, don't even have to have many per - book
sales to have it add up to large amounts
of money.
Today, Amazon have 85,837 titles
of short story collections listed for
sale to their Kindles.
I now have started to giveaway a couple
of short stories — one at a time — and I'll be interested to see if doing this encourages more
sales of my books.
This price point
of 99 cents works for my offerings as my continued
sales indicate there is currently still a market for
short stories.

I'd vaguely heard
of Scribd before but only came across the possible
sales and promotional potential
of both it and Wattpad after reading David Gaughran's attempts with both his own
short stories and serially posting his novel A Storm Hits Valparaiso.
It has pushed the
sales of Ellie's two
short stories, Free Surprise in Every Box and Predator or Prey.
It took six months (
of < 150
sales / month over 2 books and a free
short story) to gain real traction.
There was a time when I broke out the numbers
of borrows and
sales for each
short story, but now I lump the numbers for all the
short stories together and just compare
sales versus borrows for this group.
