No matter what it's called, or what part of the Southwest it's from, the
Salsa with Six Names will always triumph
over bottled
salsas for the dipping of tostadas as a
taco sauce, or a relish for roasted or grilled meats.
Hot
Salsas are a compliment for many dishes, some like Cholula, Valentina, or Buffalo can be poured
over tacos, tostadas, hamburgers, hot dogs, eggs, burritos, chicken wings as well as beverages and all type of snacks like potato chips, pork rinds (Chicharrones), churritos (corn snack sticks), peanuts, nuts, and on fruits like the famous Chamoy; a sweet and spicy sauce.
Break salmon into small portions and layer
over center of
tacos, add cabbage, mixed greens, avocado
salsa, Cotija cheese, and sour cream.
(Time: 20 minutes) All you need are
taco shells, a cup or two of chopped lettuce (choose romaine or red leaf
over iceberg), a coarsely chopped tomato, canned black beans, a jar of mild
salsa, and grated Monterey Jack cheese.
Once ready (you'll know, as the shrimp will be pink and opaque throughout), take the shrimp off the skewers and make your
tacos: lettuce, then shrimp,
salsa, then cabbage (or our creamy coleslaw if you're feeling like an overachiever... it is worth it... mmmm) and I like to drizzle a little coconut milk
over it, to cool the spicy a little (IF I don't make the coleslaw, that is).
Except I was a little trigger shy, so I decided to call a friend
over and have him cook the chicken for the
tacos while I made a
salsa.
5 To assemble the
tacos, lay out a tortilla shell, place a piece of fish in the centre and spoon
over some of the
salsa.
