Our results have revealed that although condensin and cohesin bind to
the same gene loci, they direct different association networks (Figure).

The second
locus significantly correlated with severe CCD was on chromosome 11, the
same chromosome that contains a
gene thought to increase the risk of schizophrenia in humans.
Not only do black - furred dogs and wolves have the
same gene variant, but the DNA surrounding the K
locus is also quite similar — and quite different from that of gray wolves — suggesting that the variant was introduced when wolves interbred with domestic dogs.
This interaction is explained by divergent evolution occurring among paralogs of an essential duplicate
gene, for which the functional copy is not located at the
same locus in different accessions.
We have uncovered instances where similar patterns have evolved independently (parallel evolution) via changes at the
same gene as well as via different
loci.
The population genomic analysis method applied here identifies statistically significantly co-evolving
locus pairs, potentially arising from fitness selection interdependence reflecting underlying protein - protein interactions, or
genes whose product activities contribute to the
same phenotype.
Doing a genetic test and subsequently eliminating an individual from the breeding population may not be the best strategy, as by targeting a particular allele at one genetic
locus for removal from the
gene pool of a particular breed, breeders may in fact increase allele frequency of genetic variants on alternative haplotypes at the
same, or a different
locus, that are recessively deleterious.
The fact that the affected dogs do not share common alleles in any
loci and
same alleles were present in both cases and controls excludes these known PRA
genes as candidates.
