«We want to show against a very good
team like Arsenal that the
quality of play
in our league is at a very high level, while at the

he inherited an arsenal
team that had the willingnes to fight, infact a
team structured to fight (very physical - keown, bold, tony, nigel, ian, etc), but where very shy
in quality and technique, wenger injected
quality in that
team (overmas, denis, etc, retaining their willingness to fight and that marriage produced one of the greatest generations of arsenal as a club.we sustained this balance and with patrick viera we were amazing.everything changed when FABREGAS STARTED TO PLAY.wenger began an experiment.he wanted to win the league by just playing and focusiing beautiful
quality football and we lost our willingness to fight
in the process and that is why we never won the league since that exact
same time.
Arsenal has depth, but it isn't
quality squad depth, Rosiscky, Cazorla, Ozil all play the
same position and neither of them add a great deal more than the other, our midfield is stoked but the areas we actually need depth
in are barren, we have no solid defensive midfielder with our usual reliance on a CAM moved back, as a result players like Ramsey and Wilshere who are box to box players end up creating more imbalance
in an already unbalanced
team.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense
in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes
in the
same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess
in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive
qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself
in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required
in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling
in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national
team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points
in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis
in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself
in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him
in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive
in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players
in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence
in Real or the space and protection he receives
in the German National
team's midfield, where
teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived
in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components...
in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them
in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion
in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin
in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation...
in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often
in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and
in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this
team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class
qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place
in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this
team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
total failure... Can you believe Wenger spent 32 millions on 2 average players (Chambers and Welbeck) and is penny pinching when is sbout real class players? What is
in his mind?Pay a fortune
in salary for mediocre players live Walcott, Ramsey and Wilshere and have hesitations about increasing Sanchez wages... keeping on books failures like Sanogo... The truth is - I say it for years and years - until the «British core» disapears, we are not going to be succesful. The low
quality of British players is dragging the
team back.Last time Arsenal was a powerhouse NONE of the first 11 was British.Wanna see how the British
quality looks like
in a football
team - look no further than national sides of England, Scotland, N Ireland, Wales, even Ireland (not British but
same style)- all mediocre
teams «able» to be defeated by any
team coming to mind. And you are asking about Chambers? He is
in the
same mold like Wilshere,Walcott,Ox,Ramsey,Gibs,Jenkinson - mediocre overpriced and overpaid players. The world is full with hungry, ambitious and skilled players living
in poverty and dreaming of moving to the top at any cost or sacrifice (did you see the poor house - if you can call that house, looking more like an old tent -
in which Alexis Sanchez grew up?Or Suarez?)
But I think what people want / expect are 4 - 5 games against
teams that are roughly
in the
same ballpark with regards to the opposition's
quality of player / coaching.
There's never really fierce competition for places
in our sqaud as the
team generally picks itself where as the likes of city and MU have
same quality coming off the bench.
if something had of happened which stopped Fergie from recycling his
team with like for like
quality,
in the periods he mentioned, well then the
same thing would likely have happened to him.
Loads of lower
teams have aggression and grit... WBA burnley stoke... So the idea that
same squad plus tactical flexibility will get us to the top is naive... We don't have enough
quality players
in our best 11 to compete over the season... Additions are key to next season with or without Sanchez
Arsenals» «warchest», only buying players that will «improve the
quality of the
team», «we want to challenge for EPL and UCL»... It's the
same nonsense said every summer, along with a Higuain or Benzema rumour thrown
in.
Ozil (new deal) Lacazete and Mikitaryan
in the
same team would attract more
quality in the summer
Ainsley Maitland Niles
in his two or so matches a CM has shown me that he can protect the back four and attack very well. Why is Wenger destroying the player at LB?I remember also telling everyone here earlier
in the season that we should change our formation to four back and that Monreal and Kolasinac shouldn't be
in the
same team as one has to be rested and deputise for the other.I don't care how consistent Monreal is and to me he has no CB
qualities. He at times looks almost world class at LB but to me he has no
qualities of a CB.Why is Xhaka also starting?Coquelin is twice the player he is for the role Xhaka should be playing.
BUT unfortunately those
qualities rarely win you things
in the modern game so whoever we are linked with, let's just hope and pray they share the
same romantic views of the beautiful game as Wenger does because once managers like Pep, Moanhino, Conte signals interest
in any player we want, chances are they, the players will choose these 3 over us, simply because these
teams have more money than us and most tellingly these managers are recently more successful and k knows how to win whilst Wenger seems lost and bereft of ideas
in the last 10 years...
Like I mentioned with Coquelin, he has done a fantastic job at protecting our back line and has often dominated that midfield by getting stuck
in with his opponents, however now we have someone else
in the
team that can show the
same qualities and not be left stranded when the Gunners need that type of player most.
Chelsea had the
same back 6 for almost every PL match and won it, that's why they have 4 of those players
in the
team of the season; it really isn't a good gauge on actual
quality.
Just as quietly he has instilledthe
same qualities this season
in the entire San Francisco
team; if, as someclaim, a
team reflects the personality of its coach, this is nowhere more truethan with the 49ers.
Now I think there is still reasons to be cheerful, I agree Man C & Chelski have spent & bought some good players, we all understand that 5 of those
teams might be
in the CL proper which is a huge distraction for those 4 - 5
teams.Chelsea will not be able to field the
same 13 - 14 players all season, as for Man C they were very frail at the back last season, add to that 2 flying wing backs and I'm not sure they will be any better this coming season.LFC will most probably have CL as well if they qualify and haven't exactly bought great players apart from Salah who could be a good aquasistion for them.Spuds have sold a good player & strengthened a rival & still not bought a single player yet, Man U have bought 2 good players &
in Lukaku have a proven goal scorer
in the PL but if they play the
same dour way they did last season & with the added games the CL brings will they perform week
in week out
in the league??? As for Everton yes they have released a lot of players and also brought
in a lot too to give better
quality in the squad as they have Europa league the
same as US the big difference is I think we will play squad players & youngsters maybe with a few senior players all the way up to the QF This tells me most of our rivals will pave the way for us to field pretty much the
same side every weekend
in the PL thus giving us an advantage over all the other 5
teams playing
in the CL & Europa, just remember the League has been won
in the last 2 seasons by
teams NOT
in Europe YES we are this season but I think Wenger will put all his eggs
in the League basket and field an under strength side
in all comps hence focusing on the League until we are no longer
in the race.
If Wenger kept replacing the squad with the
same quality like Chelsea and Man City do then how would future players like Sanogo, Santos, Amaury Bischoff, Park, Chamakh get a chance
in the 1st
team ahead of players from the Henry era.
Truth is we do nt need 3 to 4 players its a More a mental issue the players need to maintain their focus Throughout the season of course every big
team needs to strengthen no doubt but this players have the
quality to Do something special we just need that extra bit of belief that we can do it, Last summer it was a fitness coach we signed this summer we should look out for a top Psychologist, cause which ever player joins no matter how big the player is if the environment you are playing
in do nt have the belief youve got, you either over work yourself or you drop into the
same mindset, Yes we do need to strengthen no we do nt need 3 - 4 players
I would REALLY hate to see him playing for City this year, I mean REALLY hate it, but pragmatically if he stays we're missing out on big money that could be used to land 1 - 2
quality players (
in theory at least, we
same incapable of actually closing deals lately), he's going to wind up at City almost for sure next year, and the likely and eventual clear knowledge of this is going to make it hard for the fans to support him (to put it mildly) and be a major distraction to the
team and chemistry.
So, there is a problem if these on the fringe four Gunners continue to sit tight at Arsenal and be earning big there and at the
same time occupy rooms
in the 25 man list to block the rooms ment for accommodating two more senior
team top
quality signings this summer.
Time for some brutal honesty... this
team, as it stands, is
in no better position to compete next season than they were 12 months ago, minus the fact that some fans have been easily snowed by the acquisition of Lacazette, the free transfer LB and the release of Sanogo... if you look at the facts carefully you will see a
team that still has far more questions than answers... to better show what I mean by this statement I will briefly discuss the current state of affairs on a position - by - position basis...
in goal we have 4 potential candidates, but
in reality we have only 1 option with any real future and somehow he's the only one we have actively tried to get rid of for years because he and his father were a little too involved on social media and he got caught smoking (funny how people still defend Wiltshire under the
same and far worse circumstances)... you would think we would want to keep any goaltender that Juventus had interest
in, as they seem to have a pretty good history when it comes to that position... as far as the defenders on our current roster there are only a few individuals whom have the skill and / or youth worthy of our time and / or investment, as such we should get rid of anyone who doesn't meet those simple requirements, which means we should get rid of DeBouchy, Gibbs, Gabriel, Mertz and loan out Chambers to see if last seasons foray with Middlesborough was an anomaly or a prediction of things to come... some fans have lamented wildly about the return of Mertz to the starting lineup due to his FA Cup performance but these sort of pie
in the sky meanderings are indicative of what's wrong with this club and it's wishy - washy fan - base...
in addition to these moves the club should aggressively pursue the acquisition of dominant and mobile CB to stabilize an all too fragile defensive group that has self - destructed on numerous occasions over the past 5 seasons... moving forward and building on our need to re-establish our once dominant presence throughout the middle of the park we need to target a CDM then do whatever it takes to get that player into the fold without any of the usual nickel and diming we have become famous for (this kind of ruthless haggling has cost us numerous special players and certainly can't help make the player
in question feel good about the way their future potential employer feels about them)...
in order for us to become dominant again we need to be strong up the middle again from Goalkeeper to CB to DM to ACM to striker, like we did
in our most glorious years before and during Wenger's reign... with this
in mind, if we want Ozil to be that dominant attacking midfielder we can't keep leaving him exposed to constant ridicule about his lack of defensive prowess and provide him with the proper players
in the final third... he was never a good defensive player
in Real or with the German National squad and they certainly didn't suffer as a result of his presence on the pitch... as for the rest of the midfield the blame falls squarely
in the hands of Wenger and Gazidis, the fact that Ramsey, Ox, Sanchez and even Ozil were allowed to regularly start when none of the aforementioned had more than a year left under contract is criminal for a club of this size and financial might... the fact that we could find money for Walcott and Xhaka, who weren't even guaranteed starters, means that our whole business model needs a complete overhaul... for me it's time to get rid of some serious deadweight, even if it means selling them below what you believe their market value is just to simply right this ship and change the stagnant culture that currently exists... this means saying goodbye to Wiltshire, Elneny, Carzola, Walcott and Ramsey... everyone, minus Elneny, have spent just as much time on the training table as on the field of play, which would be manageable if they weren't so inconsistent from a performance standpoint (excluding Carzola, who is like the recent version of Rosicky — too bad, both will be deeply missed)...
in their places we need to bring
in some proven performers with no history of injuries... up front, although I do like the possibilities that a player like Lacazette presents, the fact that we had to wait so many years to acquire some true
quality at the striker position falls once again squarely at the feet of Wenger... this issue highlights the ultimate scam being perpetrated by this club since the arrival of Kroenke: pretend your a small market club when it comes to making purchases but milk your fans like a big market club when it comes to ticket prices and merchandising... I believe the reason why Wenger hasn't pursued someone of Henry's
quality, minus a fairly inexpensive RVP, was that he knew that they would demand players of a similar ilk to be brought on board and that wasn't possible when the business model was that of a «selling» club... does it really make sense that we could only make a cheeky bid for Suarez, or that we couldn't get Higuain over the line when he was being offered up for half the price he eventually went to Juve for, or that we've only paid any interest to strikers who were clearly not going to press their current
teams to let them go to Arsenal like Benzema or Cavani... just part of the facade that finally came crashing down when Sanchez finally called their bluff... the fact remains that no one wants to win more than Sanchez, including Wenger, and although I don't agree with everything that he has done off the field, I would much rather have Alexis front and center than a manager who has clearly bought into the Kroenke model
in large part due to the fact that his enormous ego suggests that only he could accomplish great things without breaking the bank... unfortunately that isn't possible anymore as the game has changed quite dramatically
in the last 15 years, which has left a largely complacent and complicit Wenger on the outside looking
in... so don't blame those players who demanded more and were left wanting... don't blame those fans who have tried desperately to raise awareness for several years when cracks began to appear... place the blame at the feet of those who were well aware all along of the potential pitfalls of just such a plan but continued to follow it even when it was no longer a financial necessity, like it ever really was...
Arsenal has been the
same for the past decade and probably this season gonna be
same all
same old stories — to make my story short, right now we are way behind
teams say Real Madrid they way they dominated Bercelona on those three games i do nt know about Arsenal if we can stand a chance and biggest problem facing Arsenal has been recruitment of
quality players — when we need atleast 5 new players we always brings
in 1 or 2 and starting convincing ourselves we gonna win championship if we loose those two of our new players is the
same old Arsenal i just do nt know what to say any more
Minus some flashes from both Sead and Iwobi, and a workingman - like effort from Elneny, we learned very little... so here are a few of my observations from today's game, which highlight my concerns about this
team moving forward... the fact that Mertz started this game, regardless of our injuries or those being «rested», should be a serious red flag for any true Arsenal fan... if Wenger is preparing to use Mertz with any regularity then the whole thing is a moot point because we are
in deep shit... the fact is no
quality team would ever have this tin soldier anywhere near there starting eleven except to groom their youthful players, who
in turn should be playing
in this type of game instead... I can only hope he was simply throwing him a bone for the FA appearance and for agreeing to stay on following the season, but I think the most likely answer is that Wenger's fragile relationship with the fan - base can't be ignored so he felt his experience was a safer bet... unfortunately not a positive choice for a
team trying to move forward (
same old,
same old)
Both
teams were operating with
same system of 3 -4-2-1 hence they were cutting each other
in tactics so as game progresses Spurs came on Top so it certainly shows how
quality squad they have
in there squad....
Well I think that something has changed, not really
in the
qualities of our
team, we're still very good going forward but weak defensively, though I'd argue we've improved
in both attacking and recently
in defending too, but we haven't improved enough for my liking, and I think most fans would think the
same.
A
team can not have 2 GKs of
same class and
quality (e.g. Cech & Courtois, Sczesny & Ospina),
in a similar way, it is not advisable to have Coq & Kante / Kondogbia / Bender if they all have similar sets of skills.
Look at the other top
teams Chelsea are miles ahead of us
in quality and squad depth, how many of our players would make their
team, possibly Kos and Sanchez at most Man City are the
same And even if you look at UTD Di Maria wow total
quality, Falco
quality, then you have Rooney and I love welbeck attitude but why are we buying our competitors 3/4 choice players and then they become our first choice.
May be Wenger should positioned him at his rightful place,
in the middle... We are not the German national
team (we have no where near the
same midfield
quality, no where close) where he plays on the wing because the DM can track back.
There are the
teams above them that most would consider superior
in any given season, and those beneath them that don't boast the
same quality.
While Froome — who took bronze
in the time trial at London 2012 — will not enjoy the
same quantity of support riders he would with
Team Sky at the Tour — the
quality is still high with Geraint Thomas, Adam Yates, Ian Stannard and Steve Cummings making up the five - strong
Team GB squad.
Juve certainly has the ability to beat them over two legs — the 2014 - 15
team that did just that
in the semifinals did not have the
same type of
quality this one does — but it's best to stay away from them as long as possible.
Jürgen Klopp's arrival set transfer policy on a different course to his predecessors though; it may have seemed like much of the
same as Liverpool failed to secure Alex Teixeira from Shaktar, but the interest
in Teixeira was already a subtle change
in policy — as Liverpool actively targeted players which addressed a deficit within the
team, and who were also of Champions League
quality.
For a few years Juventus is a complete owner of the Serie A. Four titles
in a row, suggest the
same, but given a
quality drop of Serie A and other Italian
team, that should not surprise anyone.
You see, for me, Spurs look almost identical to last season, and while there is no doubt that they've added some
quality to their squad this summer, they are,
in essence, the
same team.
Our
team is a mourinho
team now, if your complaining about the
quality of players
in the
team blame mourinho, after two summers we are still the
same.
In Wenger's early years they were regarded as one of the toughest teams in the division and plenty of fans would like to see the current side exhibit the same committed qualities that Vieira, Petit, Keown, Adams et al displayed during their time at Highbur
