This is interesting to me, we live in Kansas & just sold our Craftsmen home built in 1910, our fireplace In the living room — had those exact
same color of red &
same size red
tile on the
floor in front of the fireplace.....
Acting in much the
same manner as grout haze, soap scum not only allows for more dirt build - up
on floor tiles but it also creates a layer of build - up that can make your
tiles look dirty
on its own.
A clever trick to making a small bathroom look bigger is to use the
same tiles on the walls and the
floor.
We have almost exactly the
same tile and I have no fear tearing it up
on the
floor, but the shower scares me.
I have plans to do a compass rose in the
same tile on my main
floor landing, out of this

And we've called
on Melvin (the
same guy who
tiled the hall bathroom and installed our new hardwood
floors in the laundry room) to install the subway
tile backsplash.
And the bathroom is making me miss the house we just sold, the one we did a full bathroom reno
on last year — we chose the
same floor tile.
For this bathroom in particular, where we were literally
tiling three walls from
floor to ceiling (the fourth is an exterior eave wall, so there are built - ins there instead of
tile), I'd fallen in love with fixtures (Kohler's Kelston line in bronze) very early
on, and we ordered the valve and diverter valve at the
same time as the rest of the shower system.
