This isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially considering that a new system of teleport altars makes backtracking a breeze, but it does make the map of
Samus Returns feel less like the bowels of an alien planet and more like a series of discrete levels.
I don't know what form a new Metroid will take or which team will even be developing it, but I have a feeling we'll hear about the return of
Samus Aran at this year's E3.
With the release
of Samus Returns approaching, keep an eye on the website for new updates!
You can put Zero Suit
Samus in beachwear and Shulk in swimming trunks.
The inclusion of Zero
Suit Samus in particular as a separate character is smart, because it means you no longer have to rely on a Smash Ball to control her, and you'll have more chances to master her powerful moveset.
Fans of Nintendo's Metroid franchise were hoping for the announcement of a new adventure
for Samus Aran at E3 2014 (of course, they were hoping for that at E3 2013, E3 2012, E3 2011...), but came away disappointed when the bounty hunter was nowhere to be seen outside of Super Smash Bros..
(Or a Federation Force 2, but yeah Metroid on the NX,
with Samus Aran as the lead protagonist is the better option.)
Take a journey through the Mushroom Kingdom once again only this time instead of playing as Mario, strap yourself in
as Samus from Metroid or Bill Rizer of the Contra series.
EDIT: I think I also have an idea on why Metroid cycles fit solely
on Samus Returns and Fusion and why it wouldn't change if they ever remade Super.
Everyone's favorite intergalactic bounty
hunter Samus returns in today's Badge Arcade update with a lone repeat catcher: fitting considering the series» pervasive theme of isolation.
After searching for hours on end to find temple keys unseen to the naked eye, spending a 20 - minute battle with the Emeror Ing and then defeating
Dark Samus for the third time (in four encounters) as the world of Dark Aether crumbled around our Chozo / Lumioth - armored heroine, I was spent.
Published on Sep 20, 2017We talk about first impressions of
Metroid Samus Returns on the 3DS, news out of Tokyo...
Dehaka dancing like Drake, Lt. Morales looking like
Samus from Metroid Prime or Kerrigan looking like Kim Kardashian.
Here's hoping we
see Samus Aran during Nintendo's digital event and that a new game is coming in some form very soon.
UPDATE: It has been found that this infinite is only possible against Robin, as Zero Suit
Samus does not gain the height off of a footstool upon Robin like she gets against other characters.
I will probably get others
like Samus when games come out that support them besides Smash Bros..
Many of the insect bosses are enough to
make Samus Aran green with envy.
Super Metroid really upped the vague horror elements of the Metroid franchise, between the slaughtering of the scientists in the space station, the corpse right before battling Kraid with little parasites feeding on it that scurry away
when Samus gets near, and the frozen aliens in Tourain with their life force sucked dry that disintegrate into dust when they're touched.
We really get
into Samus Aran's head, in more ways than one.
I think the philosophy was that Metroid itself is really a series
about Samus as an individual and her struggles.
Unless Zero Suit
Samus gets changed drastically before the game's release, expect her to be a higher tiered character.
Players
control Samus Aran with a wide array of power - ups exploring a hostile alien world, solving platforming puzzles and taking down giant boss creatures.
The trailer also confirms the final Aeion ability we reported on recently called «Phase Drift» which
allows Samus to slow down time to avoid enemy attacks and reach areas not otherwise possible.
The graphics are perfect, apart from the polish on the suit, if you look
at samus on the elevator, the grooves in her suit arent too great, but this is all hardly a basis to take off marks.
A brand
new Samus amiibo, featuring a more dynamic pose reminiscent of Metroid II's original art and blue base, will come along with a Metroid...
In fact, one of my favorite games, Metroid Fusion, prominently
features Samus interacting with her new computer.
Whether or not you're actually a Metroid fan, it's hard to deny that the upcoming
Samus Edition of Nintendo's 3DS XL console is a bit of a looker.
This is
where Samus Returns leaves the original game behind.
Brinstar is one of the main areas on Planet Zebes in the Metroid series, of
which Samus Aran is the main character.
That totally caught me off guard in Wind Waker HD, I was like WHHHHAAAT!??!?!!? Probably felt like the people who seen
Samus take her suit off to reveal that she was a girl in Metroid 1
I'm still trying to figure it out and don't expect to personally come to a full conclusion until more time passes, but here's my first stab at reassessing my personal Metroid ranking
after Samus Returns.
It might not be the game Metroid fans had in mind, but its focus away from series
heroine Samus Aran doesn't make it a terrible game by default.
It's not often a great new Metroid game comes out, so we've pulled together three dudes who've played
through Samus Returns for revie...
This compact ship is used
by Samus as her base of operations.
Even
if Samus remembers Other M and washes off the Omega gunk she got on her suit in the final battle of Fusion, there are relatively easy ways to write standard Metroids back into existence.
Metroid on the NES rewarded you for beating the game with a fast time by
showing Samus in a bikini, a huge plot twist to learn she was a woman.
It hovers
around Samus affectionately before whisking away to parts unknown.
When I first started the game after only having played a few of the 2D Metroid games I kind of enjoyed the tank controls, because it gave me a very similar feel to
how Samus controlled in those 2D games (like how you had to stop moving to be able to aim in the 3D space in front of you), but as I continued I quickly realized that this control scheme does not work well for the type of game that Metroid: Prime is.
A lot of people have been clamoring for a real Metroid game
starring Samus Aran, especially after the disaster that was Metroid Prime: Federation Force.
Check this: You have to scan then in the environment
using Samus Dark Visor, making an infinitely annoying section, even more annoying.
Her mission is to find the missing hunters, stop the Space Pirates» plans, and defeat Dark
Samus once and for all.
It wasn't until a weakened Zero Suit
Samus defeated the Chozo Ruins Test that she obtains the Legendary Power Suit and is able to make use of the heavy Plasma Beam.
What, was Other M not enough of a character assassination for
Samus without putting her in the same game as a series that has long established itself as only existing to service fanservice fetishes?
With a reversible cover and a 25 track series wide soundtrack called «
Samus Archives,» it's a great grab for fans who've been waiting for the bounty hunter's revival.
Having never played the original, I wasn't particularly interested until a bonus scene came up showing the main protagonist wearing a Link outfit
then Samus Aran style armour!
I still think that the scan visor was an amazing innovation by the designers and was key for
moving Samus into the modern gaming age while still keeping her as a silent badass.
But the story needed to resolve their relationship in a much better way than
Samus still thinking he is awesome.
