I couldn't agree more with you on Elie Saab, the collection is absolutely gorgeous, but the models to get lost within the
background, not allowing for the pieces to truly pop as they should've, they really should've considered an all white backdrop, since the
colors are so rich and
saturated.
Beyond all of this, though, the visual appeal of the game is what drew me in:
saturated colors, glowing Tron - like lines, and pencil sketch
backgrounds with cell - shaded elements.
They're pretexts for Katz to try out
color combinations, and to place figures first against neutral (usually off - white)
backgrounds, then against even fields of
saturated color, and finally to cut away the
backgrounds entirely, presenting the figures as freestanding cutouts.
The
backgrounds are more
saturated in
color and several feature a landscape divided by a river.
Anderson, whose
color -
saturated, figurative paintings are just as likely to directly reference his Afro - Caribbean
background as they are to show quiet interiors and verdant pastoral scenes, has had recent solo shows at Michael Werner Gallery in New York, the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, and the Studio Museum in Harlem.
