childbirth, but they dream they've got some
say about what their partners decide to do.

This isn't to
say that there is no place for a crash course, but many crash courses, particularly those in large group settings or taught by hospitals are not
childbirth classes in the true sense of the word, but more like glorified hospital tours, which also have their place for learning
about hospital policies.
Some moms
say they feel cheated out of a vaginal delivery, especially if they took
childbirth classes and fantasized
about the «ideal birth.»
I think a bigger problem is that when a certain type appropriates the discourse of post modernism and finds themselves with a Ph.D, they then claim expertise in entirely unrelated topics - like
childbirth, Postmodernism might have some quite interesting things to
say about the way the dominant discourse comes to be framed — don't think it would be terribly reliable on the way people react to risk — foregrounding the risks of things that are disapproved of, and minimising others.
I actually came to this blog before I got pregnant, and the way that you personally attack other people & try to denigrate anything associated with NCB (like the anti-elimination communication post, personal nasty things
said about TFB, etc) made me think you weren't trust worthy as a source of information
about childbirth.
Also, experts
say it takes
about a year to recover after
childbirth.
Reminds me of Dr. Spaceman on 30 Rock who
said that everything
about childbirth was disgusting.
So it just boggles my mind that a lay person who knows next to nothing
about childbirth thinks she can hire herself out as a midwife, risk the lives of her clients and their infants and then dust off her hands and
say «oh well» when something like this happens.
