There simply aren't enough of us manga fans to support it on our own, especially with so many opting to just read
scanlations over buying the books.

scanlations didn't interest me, as I've seen them all before, but one comment did sort of bother me.

over the
scanlation community, you win the game.
The big
scanlation aggregator sites are blatant pirates (some also sell bootleg merchandise), but most small scanlators aren't actually trying to screw
over their favorite artists, and manga publishers don't have to be stupid, like Paramount in the»90s trying to stamp out Star Trek fansites.
As a dedicated manga fan, I like to read manga as soon as they are announced; I hate to say,
scanlations are the easiest way, since I had one occasion where it took
over a year for an official translation was released... But I was suprised myself at how high quality some scans are, visually and translation wise.
