stuff this weekend, caught up on my personal to - do list, and worked on some Etsy shop projects.
We experimented again with stories, ideas, technical skills and a huge amount behind the
scenes last year - which I am guessing is evident, though
of course, the backstage
stuff always seems like a mystery, I am sure.

of the arcade
scene, so I obviously have a huge amount
of nostalgia for this type
of stuff, and it's great to walk in here and not just see the machines, but to hear your passion for it.

of tough too, to do a long fight
scene with slow fight

I am 46 and re-entering the
scene, much more confidently thanks to some

Tim Burton's direction is fantastic — the only
scenes he doesn't wow with are the ones both he and the viewer are bored with — Danny Elfman's score makes the movie in a way no one's done since John Williams and the original Star Wars trilogy, Michael Keaton's mesmerizing and there's a whole lot

Close's burnished enigma characterization works beautifully because Damages, which will spend its 13 - episode season detailing the six months that led to the opening shots
of a blood - covered Ellen escaping a murder
scene, is more a well - oiled genre exercise than the
stuff of rigorous personality study.
I like Lawrence's performance best when she actually gets to do some spy
stuff, like in a centerpiece
scene that feels flown in from a different movie, in which Dominika cultivates a boozy senatorial staffer played by Mary - Louise Parker (making the absolute most
of a little).
The film constantly plays with expectation like this; for both fans
of the comic and the first film there is a lot
of cleverness at play here and so many types
of jokes
stuffed into a single
scene that repeat viewing will surely be required.
There's good
stuff around the edges
of the film — all that word play and all those visual gags demand that you pay attention lest you miss something even in the slow
scenes.
The cast go from room to room discussing
stuff, from location to location looking at
stuff, explaining scenarios to each other, lots
of driving around and
of course the other obligatory
scene where everyone watches an old educational news film reel about their enemy and how it lives.
The disjunction continues with dialogue
scenes that flit between gags about turds, Cheers and douchebags and soppy / profound
stuff about the true nature
of fatherhood and friendship.
Some
of the new
scenes, such as extensions to the prologue, have no consequence and are inconsequential; the picture had sloughed this
stuff off very organically.
«Life
of the Party» is another classic case
of a comedy that puts its best
stuff in the promos, while the actual film provides very few funny or memorable
scenes.
This kind
of biographical film always faces the danger
of having
scene after
scene of famous people meeting other famous people, but Kaufman deploys it all smoothly and effortlessly, bringing this heady world
of revolution - minded artists and intellectuals to life as vividly as he did for the space - race pioneers
of The Right
Stuff and the Prague Spring lovers
of The Unbearable Lightness
of Being.
While the subject matter is the
stuff that good films are made
of, and the quality
of the direction and acting are worthy
of admiration, where The East fails is in the contrivances involved in the farfetched plotline and the unevenness in the thriller elements (such as a
scene in which the cell dresses up to the nines to infiltrate a party for pharmaceutical bigwigs that would feel more at home in a Mission Impossible movie) that undermine what could have been a chilling and realistic story
of corporations run amok.
That
scene is actually a compilation
of four days
of attempting to get
stuff like that.
Every time the show feels like it's run out
of stuff to do, it'll throw to some other character entirely, and you'll be on a new ride for a

scenes play like misplaced farce, with a series

The boxing
stuff in Bleed isn't really special — like Hands
of Stone, the fight
scenes are okay but after Creed they just seem anti-climactic — and there's little about the family dynamics we haven't already seen, but the cast is pretty terrific and manages to elevate the material and make it seem stronger than it is.
