"Scent hounds" refers to a group of dogs known for their exceptional sense of smell. These dogs are specifically trained to track and follow scents, making them excellent hunters or search and rescue companions.

It originated when Wilhelm Dunker bred a Russian Harlequin Hound with other
scent hounds in the 1850s.
The argument for keeping them in the hound or
scent hound group is that they were originally bred as hunting dogs and are similar in many ways to the Basset Hound and the Bloodhound.
Bred specifically to track humans, it has been the origin of a number of hunting
scent hounds including coonhounds and foxhounds.
As with
other scent hounds, letting them off leash can be risky, as they live by their noses.
The difference being that while the aim of the baiting and fighting so - called «sports» is a prolonged animal fight solely for the pleasure of those watching, hunting
