Questions about the unity and
authorship of a book can not be settled in terms of a
scholar's orthodoxy but solely
on the basis of his competence in assessing the evidence.
In particular, the idea that the senior
scholar doles out
authorship like a grade is problematic, and one could not find an advocate of that widespread practice anywhere in bioethics or among the published writings
on academic integrity.
In conjunction with SHERRIE LEVINE: MAYHEM, a panel of
scholars and artists, including David Joselit, Zoe Leonard, and Elisabeth Sussman, will explore how Levine and other artists have generated discourse
on authorship, originality, and reproduction, and in turn, instigated new critical approaches to the art historical canon.
