This article summarizes our analysis of the variety of
school characteristics available in New Orleans.

The database includes information about each student's classroom teacher in a given year, which allows us to estimate how much the student learned in that year and to connect that information to such professional
characteristics as teacher certification, acquisition of a master's degree, teacher experience, teacher test performance, and the specific
school of education the teacher had attended within Florida, if the teacher had attended one of the eleven
schools for which adequate numbers of teacher observations were
available.
Moreover, the private -
school advantage only increases with consideration of the differences in an unusually rich array of
characteristics of the students, their families» economic status, and the resources
available at their
schools.
However, controlling for the limited set of student
characteristics available in
school - district databases, such as test scores in the previous grade, is sufficient to account for the assignment of students to teachers based on parent
characteristics.
We also include student fixed effects, which account for changes in the composition of the
schools» student populations over time that can not be explained by the limited set of student
characteristics for which information was
available in the district's database.
As part of this work, we will adapt an existing Systematic Social Observation (SSO) protocol to assess the
characteristics of center neighborhoods and
school grounds using publicly
available neighborhood imaging.
Available for each campus in Texas, the SRC is intended specifically to inform parents and guardians about a
school's individual
characteristics and its academic performance.
I recognize that the
available control variables may not be adequate to justify «as if» random assignment within
schools; for example, the parent
characteristics do not include parents» education.
In the study, to be published in the Spring 2011 issue of Education Next and
available at www.educationnext.org, authors Stuart Buck and Jay P. Greene examined the key
characteristics of performance pay plans currently in place in
school districts, in light of increased attention given to merit pay in national debate and in the Obama Administration's Race to the Top (RttT) competitive grant program.
We merge information on
schools» curriculum adoptions from their SARCs with a longitudinal database containing
school and district
characteristics and achievement outcomes covering the
school years 2003 to 2013, constructed based on publicly
available data from the California Department of Education (CDE).
In order to be included in our analysis, several criteria must be met: we must have
school characteristics and outcome data
available from the
school before and after the adoption, the textbook must be identifiable from the SARC, the adoption must be on - cycle (2008 or 2009), the
school must be a uniform adopter in the elementary grades under study (1 - 3 for the main analysis, 1 - 5 for the analysis up through fifth grade), and the
school must not be in a district that is so large that finding appropriate comparison
schools is impossible.

TPACK may be influenced by contextual factors such as grade level, curricular standards, student
characteristics and background, instructional and social interactions, teacher motivation and beliefs, classroom layout,
school - related expectations, support for technology, and types of technology
available (Mishra & Koehler, 2006; Rosenberg & Koehler, 2015).
This is based on the assumption that
schools in the same neighborhoods will have student bodies that have similar
characteristics, which we will attempt to verify using
available data.
These trends have implications for
school districts in terms of enrollment levels, student
characteristics, and the resources
available for education.
The different ways that children manage anger are influenced by a combination of personal
characteristics, how much stress the child and family are under and opportunities
available at home and
school for learning how to cope with feelings.
If any included cluster randomised controlled trials have not accounted for clustering, intraclass correlations will be requested from authors or if not
available, estimates from similar studies (defined as those with similar
school and student
characteristics including gender and scholastic year proportions) will be used to adjust for clustering.
