(Calif.) Only one of every three high
school freshmen are expected to earn a bachelor's degree, even among the most academically prepared students, according to a new
report.
Although more than 90 percent of the nation's ninth graders expect to graduate from college, a
report released Monday estimates that only 30 percent of California's high
school freshmen will actually earn a bachelor's degree.
Although California
reports an official graduation rate of 87 % to the Federal Government using a Federal formula, on the Dept of State website they say the rate is closer to 71 % (based on the % of
freshmen who enter high
school and go on to earn a diploma four years later).
Freshman Alexander Schachter was a talented trombone and baritone player in his high
school marching band and orchestra, said Alexander Kaminsky, the
school director of bands, the Sun Sentinel
reported.
