When I was in the first grade, I was jealous of the boy who got to bring store - bought cupcakes to
school on his birthday.
well, let's just say it was awesome enough to make up for all those years of not getting to bring cupcakes to
school on my birthday.
I don't recall that my own mother let me bring treats to
school on my birthdays, but some children did.

I would not hesitate to go to a wedding, funeral, graduation, retirement party, baby shower, ballgame, courtroom,
birthday party, family reunion, public hearing, town parade,
school play, or other social function due to the presence or lack of a 1 - 2 minute prayer from a pastor, priest, rabbi, imam, valedictorian, mayor, police chief, council member, or 3rd grader who will play the Tree in the
school spring play, nor would I feel it appropriate or necessary to make a social scene just so everyone could hear my opinion

Like so many others, my Mother made this for years and passed recipe

School class had this recipe also and made it for my
birthday... slurp - slurp - oh yes, born and raised in Texas...
Just made these for my daughter to take to

birthday... This cake is worth the effort, I promise.
The favorite cake of a previous lab member while I was in graduate
school was coconut and while I did not look forward to making such a creation, it was for her
birthday so I sucked it up and made a coconut cake complete with coconut syrup brushed
on the layers, coconut frosting, and lots of shredded coconut
on the top and sides.
I made (2 batches) of your chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting (with chocolate lego people
on top) for my 6 year old to take to
school for his
birthday and they were a complete hit.
Those famous soft thick bakery sugar cookies with frosting (seem more like discs of cake though), the soft chewy ones you make at home to decorate for various holidays, or those not soft, sad, no flavor, gross kind of sugar cookies that kids would bring in

school since their mom thought it was a «healthier» choice than cupcakes.
I have to make a regular size cupcake for Clara tonight for a
birthday celebration at
school tomorrow, so i'll check
on the time and let you know.
I will also have to remember this recipe next year

birthday, March 2nd... my kids cooked green eggs at
school by adding food coloring... this recipe would be soooo much healthier!!

When our new Agriculture Commissioner, Sid Miller, chose as his very first act in office a bogus «lifting» of a non-existent ban
on birthday cupcakes in Texas
schools, parents and health advocates around the state were understandably alarmed.
We gave the survey results to the administration, along with recommendations for alternative ways to celebrate
birthdays based
on parent feedback, and they implemented a new policy before the beginning of the
school year.
But last night i sent an email to our elementary
school principal asking for permission to send out my own survey to quantify parents» views
on birthday treats and food rewards, as well as chocolate milk and a la carte junk food in the cafeteria.
There's probably not enough leeway to avoid a summer
birthday, but the difference in a few days might determine if your child will have her
birthday on a
school day or over Christmas vacation.

on top of being full - time in the workforce.
On this blog (and elsewhere) I've come out strongly against sugary
birthday treats in the classroom, but my fifth - grade daughter really wanted to bring cupcakes or donuts to
school for her
birthday tomorrow.
We sat down with our kids and looked closely at their day - to - day lives and then decided
on what we would pay for such as clothing, cell phone plans and after -
school activities and sports fees and then gave them a budget for the rest such as entertainment (the price of a movie ticket once a month), gifts (
birthdays, holidays, church), their craving for
school cafeteria food — which we capped at twice a week — plus a small stipend.
Write all events such as appointments,
school functions, and
birthdays on the calendar.

on pediatricians,
schools and daycare facilities.
Or the fact that my state's Agriculture Secretary, Sid Miller (once voted the second most - conservative member in the Texas legislature — no easy feat), managed to vault himself onto the national stage just by attacking a (nonexistent) ban
on birthday cupcakes in Texas
schools.
When my kids started
school,
on their
birthdays, or as near as can be, I am sneaky with them about why I don't have their lunch packed for
school or something, and end up at
school with their fav lunch and get to eat with them.
The books were started because of a tradition at their Montessori
school where the child does a Walk around the Sun
on their
birthday and the teacher shows photos and tells stories about their life, separated by years as they take one walk around the sun for each year of their life.
Maybe (as is the case in my own home) I really love giving my kid treats (see above re: cupcake love) but when my kid comes home full of your treats (and in our
school it's not uncommon, especially in late spring, for TWO families to send treats
on a single day to celebrate upcoming summer
birthdays), then I'm either preempted by you or we have to exceed what I consider a reasonable amount of sugar.
Today
on the way to a pool play date, I was preoccupied with thoughts of the start of
school next week, the neighborhood playgroup I am trying to start for my youngest, the violin lessons I wanted to look into for my oldest, the
birthday present I need to mail for my sister, and the blog post I needed to come up with to wrap up Car Week
on Baby Bunching.
