school upgrade projects, announced Nelson - Creston MLA Michelle Mungall.

School.
Projects funded this year include numerous classroom
upgrades, the creation of new media centers, library renovations, technology
upgrades, playgrounds, auditorium renovations and other physical plant improvements in public
schools across The Bronx.
She also asked for $ 285,000 to
upgrade the college's Women's Center, $ 475,000 to renovate York's chemistry labs, $ 315,000 for the
school's geo - science monitoring
project and funding for the second phase of the
project to repair and build the college's soccer field, which is currently «unusable.»
More than 40
school infrastructure
projects have now been funded across the region, with more than $ 100 million provided over the past three budgets to build and
upgrade schools.
«We will invest $ 1.2 billion in new
schools and
school upgrades over the next four years, because we know that having access to new, modern learning facilities helps young people reach their full potential — this investment will fund more than 200
school infrastructure
projects around the state.

schools throughout the district.
The
project also will incorporate improvements to the existing
school building, including the replacement of doorknobs with ADA - compliant door latches; ADA - related relocations and renovations of bathrooms;
upgrades to an exercise room, a guidance suite, auditorium and four classrooms; and the installation of an inclined chair lift to provide accessibility to the lower area of the existing building's third floor.
The funding from Title II, Part B from the U.S. Department of Education supports a competitive grant competition for
projects that increase the academic achievement of students in mathematics and science by encouraging state education agencies, institutions of higher education, local education agencies, elementary
schools, and secondary
schools to participate in programs that improve instruction and
upgrade the status and stature of mathematics and science teaching.
