Indeed, I admitted up front that I love his whole Cockney thing (and find him generally adorable) and I feel very grateful to him for the attention he's
focused on school food nationally.

Sadly, chronic, diet - related health conditions are a pervasive problem at the
school, so McCoy has
focused her efforts
on improving student health and wellness by improving the
food they serve.

This whole debacle reminds me of when Chipotle changed their bags to state their philosophy of «

on how to incorporate more of these colourful fresh

food more accessible to families and putting more emphasis

To recap, CPS recently announced that it made a landmark purchase of 1.2 million pounds of local, whole - muscle chicken raised without antibiotics, the result of a months - long collaboration between CPS,

on Human Health and Industrial Farming, Whole Foods, Miller Poultry, Michigan State University and Healthy
Schools Campaign.
The effort is under partnership with the Pew Campaign

I hope we will be able to do that some day, but for right now, any
school system can improve their
food by just
focusing on getting rid of the worst ingredients.

That's a win - win for the
food industry and for
school food directors solely
focused on their financial bottom line.
To get serious about
school food and its consequences, policy makers need to
focus less
on tinkering with funding formulas, surplus agricultural commodities, and % of calories from fat while
focusing more
on stopping kids from devouring plate after plate of hamburgers and cheesy noodles.
While my petition
focused on the use of pink slime in
school food, I feel strongly that the media firestorm we created and the overwhelming response to the petition was animated by another concern as well: many Americans were learning for the first time about this substance and the fact that it's in, reportedly, 70 % of our ground beef without any sort of labeling for those who wish to avoid it.
But while government agencies usually
focus their limited resources
on unsanitary practices in the factories that produce
food, inspection reports and site visits in Chicago underscore the perils lurking at the final stages of the
school lunch: the kitchens where meals are heated and the cafeterias where they are served.
