Do governments understand that Grammar
Schools get better results, not because they are better but because they select brighter children?
Putting aside, for the moment, the evidence that some charter
schools get better results because they are «creaming off the highest performing students» and therefore naturally have slightly higher test schools, there is a much more profound and important question.
How
these schools get better results year after year.

However, the analysis outlined underlying factors which should be taken into account when reading the figures, including: grammar
schools are more likely to be single - sex; co-educational
schools have a higher proportion of poorer pupils; and girls are more likely to

The only answer that makes sense to us is for a state to make sure that its math and reading standards are clear, coherent, and rigorous; that its tests line up with those standards; that its
schools and educators are held to account for
getting better results in terms of real student learning; and that research is done to examine the effectiveness of various curricular products.
While the overall
results for U.S. students on this year's PISA exam were not
good, some individual high
schools got good news about the performance of their students on the test.
Teaching effectiveness measures have great potential to provide teachers with feedback as they work to hone their craft and to help
school system leaders understand where support for
better teaching and learning is needed, whether that support is effective, and, ultimately, how to design a system of supports to
get better results.
