This is where the understanding of climate modeling uncertainty is lost in
the scientific communications to the public by the politicians and vocal advocates that drive climate change discussions.

This effort has been discussed on several occasions in the
Public Engagement with Science Group on Trellis, the AAAS online
communication platform for the
scientific community (request
to join here).
The project aimed
to set up a network of Indian scientists and engineers
to facilitate
communication and increase their participation on committees and boards working on
public science policy and minorities in science issues, as well as
scientific peer review panels.
Drawn
to the meeting's focus on science policy, attendees are learning how
to bolster the
scientific integrity policies of their respective institutions,
to clearly outline the real life impacts of their research and
to challenge
public policy shifts that blunt
scientific communication and hamper international talent exchanges.
Members of the
scientific community can share information about
public lectures, volunteer opportunities and family science events where children can meet scientists — opportunities for «crucial,» face -
to - face
communication that only magnify its impact, Aicher said.
The
public perception of science, science
communication, the development of successful working models, the transfer of technology from developed
to developing countries, the improvement of
scientific education, and a measurable contribution were all things that inspired me.

This
scientific version of the elevator pitch is intended
to celebrate doctoral research, hone participants»
communication skills, and disseminate research
to the
public.
Scientists began organizing only 3 days after President Donald Trump took office, as alarm — sparked by a campaign that in many ways appeared
to dismiss the contributions of
scientific research — ignited over Senate hearings on controversial cabinet picks and mandates curtailing
public communication from
scientific agencies.
The Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion program facilitates
communication between
scientific and religious communities through partnerships with religious organizations
to help incorporate science into educational programs and encourage
scientific outreach
to address
public concerns about
scientific advances and show how they address world problems.
The objectives of the Caribbean Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science are
to further the work of scientists,
to facilitate cooperation among them,
to foster
scientific freedom and responsibility,
to improve the effectiveness of science in the promotion of human welfare,
to increase
public understanding and appreciation of the importance and promise of the methods of science in human progress, and
to serve as a vehicle for
communication and cooperation among
scientific societies within the territory of the Division.

Many other issues — from climate change
to nuclear power
to using «smart» electricity grids — also require accurate, understandable
scientific communication so that policymakers and the general
public can make informed decisions.
Ric Weibl, director of the AAAS Center for Careers in Science and Technology, said that the career and professional development activities at the AAAS annual meeting are central
to the AAAS mission, as they serve the association's broad goals
to enhance
communication among scientists and the
public and
to strengthen and diversify the
scientific and technological workforce.

The J. To this end, the Center has developed a three - stage knowledge transfer process: (1) Knowledge Synthesis — a critical analysis of cutting - edge science and program evaluation research to identify core concepts and evidence - based findings that are broadly accepted by the scientific community; (2) Knowledge Translation — the identification of gaps in understanding between scientists and the public, and the development of effective language to communicate accurate scientific information in a way that can inform sound public discourse; and (3) Knowledge Communication — the production and dissemination of a wide variety of publications and educational media via print, the Web, and in - person presentation

Here's the Guardian on Luntz's now - infamous memo, back when the confidential document first leaked in 2003: «the leading Republican consultant Frank Luntz, concedes the party has «lost the environmental

In an article
to appear in the journal Child Development, «Distinguishing polemic from commentary in science,» physicist David Grimes and psychologist Dorothy Bishop write: Exposure

But more importantly it would leave the society as a whole
to objectively administer the first position statement on free and open
communication, particularly
to insure that scientists with deferring positions on critical issues have the ability «
to present their findings
to the
scientific community, policy makers, the media, and the
public without censorship, intimidation, or political interference is imperative.»
The reason I say the above is that I don't think a fundamental goal of science
communication is shifting
public opion; it is simply
to communicate
scientific information
to the
public.
In particular, it is sometimes argued that (a) despite past
public communication efforts,
public understanding of the
scientific consensus has not changed much in the last decade and hence the approach must not be very effective (i.e., «the stasis argument»)[13] and (b) because people are predisposed
to engage in protective motivated reasoning (i.e., people process information consistent with their ideological worldviews), consensus - messaging is likely
to be unsuccessful or could even backfire [12, 14].
