Collection (1954/1955) is the artist's first «Combine painting,» an early type of Combine that hangs on the
wall like a traditional painting but reaches into three dimensions with various elements attached to the work's surface — such as the silk veil over the mirror attached just off - center and the found
wood scraps along the top edge.
The ramp, formed by a variety of materials that range from generic folding chairs to conventional industrial building materials and
scrap wood from a previous installation, is not fixed, so that the substructure can compress into spaces, against
walls, into corners, and wrap around architectural details.
Inspired by Cubism, Nevelson took
scraps of
wood and other materials found on the street near her studio and assembled them into free - standing and
wall - mounted sculpture that she would paint a solid colour — most famously, black or white.
The other opens with a constellation of
scrap wood overhead and warnings of monsters and fuckers on the
wall, by Gregg Haberny.
In the strongest work in this show, what look like cut - up
scraps of painted canvas are really thick swaths of acrylic paint, peeled off a flat surface and draped over bare

Peter Buggenhout, a Belgian artist showing at Gladstone Gallery, covered a junkyard's worth of
scrap metal,
wood and other found objects with vacuum cleaner dust to create what I described in the review as «massive stacks of debris [that] hang off the
wall or sprawl across the floor in a state of dereliction and collapse, monumental castoffs from a world spinning out of control.»

wall first and then attached the cleats.
To fill up the huge living / dining
wall, we grabbed more
scrap pieces of
wood and added bold blocks of color inspired by fabrics chosen by GordonDunning.
I used a piece of
scrap wood to make it look like the windows are actually taller than they really are, and so it doesn't just look like two blinds mounted to the
wall anymore...

So, rather than just secure a pretty oil rubbed bronze holder to the
wall, I attached it to a piece of stained
scrap wood to create a shelf for decorative accessories like a small plant, air freshener, vase of flowers, extra t.p. or even just cell phone accident prevention, if you know what I mean.
I painted a
scrap of
wood with the
wall colour to decide between two whites: a more blue - ish shade called Canoeing Calm and Melted Marshmallow.
