Such development of
doctrine, typically in response to grave error and deviant traditions built upon such error, is to be understood not as an addition to the apostolic
teaching contained in Holy
Scripture but as Spirit - guided insight into the fullness of that
teaching.
Since Latter - day Saints believe in continuing, modern revelation, that means that we follow what is in the canonized
scriptures (Bible, Book of Mormon,
Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price) AND whatever our current leaders
teach.

scripture, but extrapolated by taking a few verses or partial verses out of context and granting them a meaning never intended by the authors.
The
teaching of sound
doctrine is NEVER negotiable in
Scripture.
We can no longer allow the corruption of
scripture to be used to justify abusive and horribly damaging false
doctrine to be
taught.
159:4.9 «But the greatest error of the

If the Bible doesn't
teach the
doctrine of the Inspiration of
Scripture, where does that leave us regarding the Bible?
To be sure, we have an expanded canon of
Scripture, but nothing within the Book of Mormon,
Doctrine and Covenants, or Pearl of Great Price contradicts what is
taught in the Bible regarding the virgin birth (which, by the way, we definitely believe in),
teachings, miracles, atoning sacrifice, or bodily resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.
In James» view, the Reformation led to a chaos of
doctrines, as independent authorities began interpreting
scripture for themselves, thus proving the value of Catholicism's centralised body of
teaching centred on the authority of the Pope.
On the other hand, there were other men who disagreed: Tertullian, who believed that the soul would live on forever, that the wicked would suffer misery in proportion to the righteous» reward; St. Augustine, who came up with the
doctrines of Original Sin and Predestination (some would be saved, the rest would be damned); and Jerome, who would end up retranslating the Latin Bible into what would become the Latin Vulgate and would twist various
scriptures that talked about eonian chastening into
teaching eternal torment.
This is the
teaching of the
Scripture and the implication of the
doctrine of the good creation.
Of course our
doctrine of inspiration does not grow out of our experience with the Bible, but from the
teaching of
Scripture itself But that truth does not become actual apart from a real interaction between the text and my experience.

However, in Article IV, on church membership, it is specifically stated that a member must be a «believer in the
doctrines of Christian Science according to the platform and
teaching contained in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures, by Reverend Mary Baker Eddy.
Scripture teaches that we all have a responsibility to grow into maturity and not remain baby Christians who are easily knocked off course by dodgy
doctrines or by chasing after faddish spiritual practices.
Some speak in individual terms of the cultivation of the Christian life or the salvation of souls; others state their goal to be the building up of the corporate life of the Church or of some part of it; again the goal is defined as the «communication of the vital and redeeming
doctrines of

Now certainly, the concept of false
teaching and unsound
doctrine is found elsewhere in
Scripture, and the term «false prophets» which is also found in 2 Peter 2:1 is also found in other passages, but the disparaging label of «false teacher» which is so frequently tossed about these days, is not a common term in
Scripture.
In other words, the
teaching that the death of Christ was (a) for sin and (b) in accordance with the
scriptures was derived by both Mark and Paul from the primitive church; the
doctrine of the Atonement is not Paul's unique and distinctive contribution to Christian thought, for it is really pre-Pauline; further, it is not at all the central, cardinal
doctrine in «Paulinism,» but a subsidiary one; (Indeed, it is a component one — it forms part of the
doctrine of the new creation in Christ) finally, the conception of the way in which Christ's death becomes effective, as Paul conceived it, is peculiar to Paul and finds no trace in Mark or indeed elsewhere in the New Testament (Save in passages demonstrable dependent on Paul)-- Paul thinks of it as a conquest of the demonic powers in the very hour of their greatest aggression and apparent triumph.
We can still say that their
teachings are not a good application of
Scripture to life and
doctrine.
All
scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness» 2 Timothy 3:16 KJV It is indisputable that God prohibited all women from
teaching — «I do not permit a woman to
teach or to have authority over a man».
And so if you want to learn what sound
doctrine is, and if you want to hear what the
Scriptures really
teach, you need to attend church every Sunday morning and Sunday night, and get plugged in to one of our mid-week Bible studies, and study the
Scriptures every day on your own.

doctrine of lordship, secondly, the supreme authority of the
scriptures, and thirdly his conception of the church and the Eucharist.
Since the early church had no set «canon of

The Christian movement must state the
doctrines it now needs whether or not these can be derived directly from the Bible, Nevertheless, in a movement which looks back to the records of its origins for inspiration, it is important to show the connection of current
teaching to the
Scriptures.
(3) Probabilism is theologically deep, going back to John and Paul's scriptural
teaching that Spirit - filled persons are «
taught of God,» and to Thomas Aquinas's
doctrine that the primary law for the believer is the grace of the Holy Spirit poured into the heart, while all written law — including even
Scripture, as well as the
teachings of the popes and councils — is secondary.
This is no different than some young people going to college and leaving their brains at the door and swallowing evolutionary theory and purposely rejecting the obvious of what creation clearly shows except this is leaving your brain at the door of theology school and accepting man's opinion over what is clearly stated in the holy
scriptures, and then
teaching others false
doctrine.
The six fundamentals of Islam — belief in God, in Angels, in the
scriptures, in the messengers of God, in the Day of Resurrection, and in God's disposition for good and evil — are
taught to all Muslims, but those who receive only simple religious instruction have only superficial knowledge of religious
doctrine.

Mormon
doctrine teaches non-Biblical falsehoods, not the least of which is their contradiction of the
scripture that says «no man can see God and live!».
There is no
Scriptures that says unrepentant Christians can live a sinful lifestyle, or
teach doctrines contrary to the gospel of Christ and remain saved.
The bible
teaches that forced celibacy is unnatural; that it is the
doctrine of devils; the bishop shall be the husband of one wife,
scripture says, and may be celibate if they so choose, but it can not be forced.
