I've actually been prepping for a big Easter shoot this week, and
while scrolling through Amazon (my go - to for last - minute party and styled shoot supplies), I came across this new - to - Amazon line: Dorotea Hand
Painted Dinnerware.
And the «Sources of the Self» section of «Americana,» one of the opening exhibitions, includes documentation of Interior
Scroll, the influential 1975 performance in which Schneemann ritualistically stood naked on a table,
painted her body with mud, and slowly extracted a paper
scroll from her vagina
while reading from it.
The
scrolls are plastered with
paint on both sides to the point of oppression: some sport jaunty regimented stripes,
while others are overwhelmed by wild, thick impastos.
The pieces on view in this exhibition represent a diverse range of iconic word - based arrangements including a desktop calendar, diary entries, movie script, and Chinese
scrolls,
while referencing specific texts such as the Constitution of the United States of America, The New York Times, the Periodic Table, Twitter and authored books, all dovetailed with an array of artistic mediums from fine art prints,
painting on paper, and collage; to installation art, aerial sculpture, and video art.
