The choice of works is very deliberate with the exhibition broken down into seven themes: Beauty, Power
and Space, which looks at each artist's engagement with the sublime, a theme central to English Romantic art but which survived through the modernist movement
and is a key feature of Twombly's paintings; Atmosphere, which considers the ways in which the three artists paint
land and sea through a filter of atmospheric conditions; Naught so Sweet as Melancholy, named after a phrase in Robert Burton's Anatomy of Melancholy, where the theme of loss
and memorialisation are central concerns; The Seasons which reflects upon the passage of time; Fire
and Water where all three artists evince the power of the elements; The Vital
Force which brings together works of a sensual or erotic nature;
and finally A Floating World where each artist contemplates mortality
and external events that impact on their lives.
Paintings of

It obscures the role of post-glacial isostatic rebound elsewhere, as in Hudson's Bay

forcing more water into the ocean
and in some locales raising
land faster than the measured rate of
sea level rise [ANDY REVKIN notes: Hi Russell.
In LGM simulations
land albedo changes are prescribed (at least in regards to ice sheets
and altered topography due to
sea level; there are feedback
land albedo changes) so are a
forcing, whereas
sea ice is determined interactively by the model climate, so is a feedback in this framework.
The albedo change resulting from the snowline retreat on
land is similarly large as the retreat of
sea ice, so the combined impact could be well over 2 W / sq m. To put this in context, albedo changes in the Arctic alone could more than double the net radiative
forcing resulting from the emissions caused by all people of the world, estimated by the IPCC to be 1.6 W / sq m in 2007
and 2.29 W / sq m in 2013.»
2.10 All model simulations, whether they were
forced with increased concentrations of greenhouse gases
and aerosols or with increased concentrations of greenhouse gases alone, show the follow - ing features: greater surface warming of the
land than of the
sea in winter; a maximum surface warming in high northern latitudes in winter... All these changes are associated with identifiable physical mechanisms.
This effective radiative
forcing is the climate sensitivity calculation that incorporates temperature responses in the troposphere

Despite being
forced to drop their medium assessment down to a a rather low +1.7 °C per century trend, the actual empirical evidence, from both the

These vastly irresponsible actions will further heat the atmosphere

Ice in all forms will see stronger heat

Confirmation that these spatially
and temporally complex adjustments are quite realistic globally is emerging from simulations of the Jones (1994)
land - surface air temperature anomalies using the Hadley Centre atmospheric climate model HadAM3
forced with observed SST
and sea - ice extents since 1871, updated from Rayner et al. (1996).
The largest
forcing from Kohler's Table 1 actually relates to the cryosphere - 3.17 W m - 2 come from changes in
land ice, 0.55 W m - 2 from
sea level,
and 0.82 W m - 2 from snow.
These metrics emphasise fields between 30S
and 30N including 2 m air temperature (Willmott
and Matsuura 2000), vertically averaged air temperature (ERA40, Uppala et al. 2005), latent heat fluxes of the ocean (Yu et al. 2008), zonal winds at 300 mb (ERA40, Uppala et al. 2005), longwave
and shortwave cloud
forcing (CERES2, Loeb et al. 2009), precipitation over
land and ocean (GPCP, Adler et al. 2003),
sea level pressure (ERA40, Uppala et al. 2005), vertically averaged relative humidity (ERA40, Uppala et al. 2005).
How much it has grown is not stated in the paper: «Observational determination of albedo decrease caused by vanishing Arctic
sea ice» http://eisenman.ucsd.edu/publications/Pistone-Eisenman-Ramanathan-2014.pdf but it seems very clear that Arctic
sea - ice loss is in accelerating decline towards zero in the coming decades, meaning that this
forcing will rise very substantially along with those from
land - ice
and snow cover decline.
(b) Pistone et al. (2014) shows that the decrease in Arctic albedo (including
land snow,
sea ice
and black carbon effects) beyond that previously assumed results in additional radiative
forcing equal to 1/4 of the CO ₂ in the atmosphere.
Here, we present an explanation for time - invariant
land —
sea warming ratio that applies if three conditions on radiative
forcing are met: first, spatial variations in the climate
forcing must be sufficiently small that the lower free troposphere warms evenly over
land and ocean; second, the temperature response must not be large enough to change the global circulation to zeroth order; third, the temperature response must not be large enough to modify the boundary layer amplification mechanisms that contribute to making φ exceed unity.
Current models of climate change include
sea level rise,
land degradation, regional changes in temperature
and precipitation patterns,
and some consequences for agriculture, but without modeling the feedbacks that these significant impacts would have on the Human System, such as geographic
and economic displacement,
forced migration, destruction of infrastructure, increased economic inequality, nutritional sustenance, fertility, mortality, conflicts,
and spread of diseases or other human health consequences [135,136].
The conclusion, that the loss of
sea ice — the polar bear's natural
and preferred habitat —
forces them onto dry
land and closer to human habitation, seems obvious.
Use the calculated fluxes to
force the surface component of a climate model (without the atmosphere), including the ocean,
sea ice,
and land subsystem models, for the baseline (preindustrial)
and the doubled CO2
forcing.
I have experience in performing
force protection, anti-terrorism, physical security,
and law enforcement duties on
land and at
sea.
