Seam allowance refers to the extra fabric that is left around the edges of a pattern when cutting out the pieces. It allows for sewing seams and provides some space for adjustments and finishing touches to the garment.

seam allowances in.
Basically you are getting your fabric to match up with your comforter with a generous
seam allowance around.
I also wanted to add the little pleat they have in the center front of the Anthropologie skirt, so I added extra inches to the
side seam allowances and used that extra fabric to make a pleat in the center front.
My sewing skills are very elementary, and allowing that one inch
seam allowance keeps things simple.)
