Winter's Bone is the highlight
of Netflix's independent
films section, telling the story
of a young woman from the Ozarks
of America who must
find her meth - cooking father to avoid eviction after dad skips bail, leaving the family on the brink
of homelessness.
On the other hand, you'd really have to go out
of your way to complain that the show's two biggest roles have been given to black actors — but if you check the comments
sections of online references to the
film, you'll
find plenty
of people going out
of their way.
Many viewers will
find themselves frustrated at the fact that a large
section in the middle
of the
film revolves around Maureen exchanging text messages on her phone with a mystery contact who she thinks may be her deceased brother.
A 3 - minute gag reel in which Cuthbert cracks up while faking an orgasm acquaints us with a moment or two
found only in the
section of deleted / extended scenes (16 in all, totalling 11 minutes), wherein Greenfield, providing optional voice - over, repeats «cut for time» like a mantra and generally demonstrates — as he does in his yakker for the
film proper — that he rolls over easily when confronted with studio research.
History teachers will
find value in the
section of this segment that details the life
of Bobby Kennedy, and music teachers will appreciate the information and visuals detailing the creation
of the
film's score.
The
film begins sombre enough, yet
finds amusement after the first
section, which is carried through the rest
of the duration.

Each
of the three
sections of the
film essentially covers a variation
of the same themes — dealing with prejudice, trying to
find and maintain one's identity, struggling with love — but Szabó
finds fresh and engaging ways to approach it each time.
As with previous Platinum Edition releases, the treasure trove
of extras can be
found on the second disc's «Backstage Disney»
section, which features an hour - long documentary
of the
film's development, production, and reception, featuring comments from modern animation figures such as Pixar's John Lassiter as well as many
of the now - elderly voice actors for Bambi and the other forest creatures.

found a wonderful
film L.A.X. by Fabrice Ziolkowski, which is projected on the wall to function as the signature large - scale work in the Los Angeles
section of the exhibition.
Ostensibly composed
of sections of found film, it is set in Dublin, with its main focus being the Formal Gardens at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, where IMMA and their exhibition are located.
