I don't recall
seeing fresh figs often in the grocery store while I was growing up in the Midwest — and I'm not sure if that's the reason why they fascinate me so much now, as if I have a lot of catching up to do or if, like many things, I've just gained a new appreciation for them while in Mexico.
I recently acquired some fig - infused balsamic vinegar, and have been
seeing fresh figs in the grocery store recently.
I may or may not have squealed with joy when
I saw fresh figs a few weeks ago.
Not exact matches
On every corner you
see piles of the best dried fruit — my favourite being the dates, apricots,
figs — as well as more nuts than you can possibly image, heaps of insanely colourful, totally exotic herbs and spices, brilliant dried tea mixes, awesome honey and nut based bars (I'm obsessed) and the world's best, most
freshest juices — pomegranate and orange being my new favourite, possibly the yummiest juice ever.
So as he was doing back breaking labor, I was meandering around the yard and
saw a
fig tree I'd never noticed before — chock full of
fresh, ready to pick
figs.
How else would I geek out in the produce department when I
see exotic things like
fresh figs?

The
fresh figs we got were the Calimyrna and you can
see in my photos how beautiful they are on the plate, with the light yellow - green skin and the pinky - wine color on the inside.
At my July Food Bloggers Los Angeles meeting, I not only got to
see all my food blogger friends and eat some crazy good
fresh fruit dishes, but we had a surprise visit from Karla Stockli from the California

My dear friend and colleague introduced me to
fresh figs and now I get excited every year when I start to
see them at the markets.
I promise I'll make it properly - with
fresh figs - when I
see them around here:)

seeing on everyone's blog... how I wish they grew here!
I like to
saw the expertly spiced soppressata log into coins and serve it with
fresh figs, a few olives, and a hunk of salty Pecorino.
