see below) but the question was why is this a meaningful metric for looking at changes over time, when you could get the same
global mean from very different distributions of temperature (eg increase the poles, decrease the tropics) which would have very different interpretations of energy balance (at least if I am

Let me
see if I got it
right: (1) With GW we're not sure of getting much change in overall
global average precip, but when when it rains it pours... & floods, which also means on the flip side we would expect increasing periods of no precip (aka droughts), since the

The risks need to be assessed and then there needs to be dialogue among nations to determine which is the greater risk (
Global Warming is
right or
Global Warming is wrong) before jumping to solutions.Cuuerntly the noise generated by the current polarized debate (
see many comments above) obscures the evaluation of risks associated with both sides of the issue.
It would be cool to
see a wide collection of maps covering many different issues, not just climate and food production, but, for instance, poverty and wealth, arms production and war, clothing production and leisure time, education levels, consumption, production, health, population growth and decline, movement of immigrants, human
rights, animal populations, housing ownership, housing starts, anything basically which can be measured in a visual map... not just for the US but as
global maps, collected on pages where you could drag them around to sit on top of each other and try and make sense of the various impacts...

To leave out the polar regions, and specifically the northern hemisphere, which, both by observation and by measurement has
seen a larger percentage warming than the mid-latitudes is to slice the greatest area of dynamic change related to
global warming
right out of the equation.
Right now the consensus view is that it is too early to say if
global warming has already brought about a detectable change in the number and nature of tropical storms — the changes
seen so far are still within the bounds of natural variability.
An important new field of research developed as scientists turned from predicting future impacts to showing how
global warming was harming people
right now, as
seen in both
global statistics and analyses of individual disasters.
The unusual temperature conditions we can experience
right now can therefore be
seen just as a result of
global warming.
Well there's nothing like a catastrophic crash in
global derivatives trading and the ongoing fallout to make any man wary of offering up a whole new smorgasbord of derivatives to
see if all the experts in the field can get it
right next time round.
