Compared to that, people who just started following the keto diet may
see high ketone readings because they are still glucose dependent and most ketones produced are not utilised for energy.
You may
see higher ketone values during a long - term fast or calorie restriction, but generally, ketone levels in the fed state in healthy person on a low carb or ketogenic diet might range between 0.3 and say 1.1 mmol / L with blood glucose less than 5.0 mmol / L or 90 mg / dL.

If you are eating a low carb /
high fat diet and intermittent fasting, you could
see your levels go to maybe 77 glucose / 2.2
ketones, as an example.
You can
see in the second table that what was actually happening on September 10th was pretty
high blood glucose readings, which is why my
ketones were down, and which jumped after lunch and supper, which I know were
high in protein.
Since that time, I have figured out how to eat meals that satisfy me without eating purely to produce
high ketone readings (
see Eating Keto Part I).
There are various definitions of what actual constitutes ketosis from a quantitative standpoint, but blood, urine or breath
ketone values above 1.0 mmol are generally considered to indicate a state of ketosis (and during exercise, I've
seen my own body reach levels as
high as 7.0 mmol).

So, if you're very low - carb try eating more carbs, if you're very
high carb try fewer carbs, try coconut oil to
see if
ketones help, consider getting a blood glucose meter to
see if the cravings correlate with blood glucose levels.
If you are walking on a regular basis but not doing
high intensity training (leaves you out of breath) or strength training then try 0.8 g / kg and
see what your
ketone levels look like.

highest I've ever
seen, and this was without exogenous
ketones, was 7.6 Very naturally, again, it was early on when I started keto and I started kinda really doing this.
When I had
ketone envy before I was always disappointed when my
ketones wouldn't get as
high as others... but the more I read the more I
see that people still aren't sure if
higher ketones =
higher fat burning yet.
If you're planning to use — or you're already using — a low carb lifestyle to feel better, have more energy and possibly shape up a bit, I don't
see a valid reason why you'd want
ketones to reach incredibly
high levels.
This condition
seen in prolonged fasting, type 1 diabetes and
high - fat / low - carbohydrate diets leads to the production of
higher - than - normal levels of so - called
ketone bodies (KBs), that is, acetoacetate, β - hydroxybutyric acid and acetone — a process called ketogenesis and which occurs principally in the mitochondrial matrix in the liver.6
However, when it comes to weight loss,
high ketones are not needed (please,

Urinalysis may reveal
higher sugar levels, pus, bacteria, and an excessive number of
ketone bodies in the urine, as
seen in diabetes mellitus.
