I see in school lunch is either served plain steamed or raw and served with ranch dressing.
I also raised the possibility of a middle ground solution, already instituted by some school districts, of lowering the sugar content and removing objectionable ingredients from flavored milk before banning it altogether, to the extent many parents and nutritional experts still want to
see it in school lunch rooms.

Part of the issue: nobody
in District leadership had ever
seen a real
school lunch, just the ones that got «dressed up for company.»
The
lunch trays I
see today are a marked improvement over what I ate
in school!
I've also been surprised as I do my «Notes from the Field» features to
see how often dessert is served as part of the
school lunch in my kids» cafeteria.
And, I would even say we probably try to resist some over-arching federal mandate around how much «local content» is present
in the
school lunches (as this would just encourage folks to re-define the term so they could meet the mandate:

While many parents do
see the Pinterest
lunch as a way of showing their love and devotion, many of us would also be happy to show it
in other ways if we and our kids felt the
school lunch was both tasty and nutritious.

As a teacher
in an elementary
school, I've
seen that there are very few options for
lunches - to the extent that students with nut allergies (which today are very common) have no option at all.
Here
in HISD and
in many districts around the country, it is not uncommon to
see on high
school campuses numerous, daily fundraisers conducted during the
lunch hour, most of which offer foods of poor nutritional value.
