seeing orca whales on a one day kayak trip anywhere in the United States!
Johnstone Strait is one of the best places along Vancouver Island to
see Orca whales and Pacific White - sided dolphins.
All of our 5 - day San Juan kayak expeditions
saw both orca whales and porpoises.
However, if your main goal is to
see orca whales we recommend the afternoon kayaking tour.
It is sometimes possible to
see an orca whale tail slapping, spyhopping, breaching or any of their typical behaviours during a whale watching tour off Northern Vancouver.
In June and July
we see orca whales on about 75 % of these tours.
But the best way to
see orca whales is to hire a boat to visit the resident whale pods who feed along Haro Strait near San Juan Island.

Watching the pod of
Orcas attack the Gray
Whales was tough to watch, but I REALLY didn't want to
see a dolphin die today.

whales, and sea lions on a morning boat trip in late September.

In the last two years there seem to be more sightings of resident
Orca Whales, however they only come randomly so it is not something you could expect to
see.

June 2002
saw the arrival of Springer, the
orca whale from A-pod that had been abandoned at the Vashon Island Washington ferry dock.

whales as they swim by the camp, however this is less likely than on our tours departing from Telegraph Cove.
