I find that in standard American diet cooking, dips are
seen as

I grew up in New Jersey, where summer is alllll about seafood, which was the first thing that came to my mind when I thought about
food I'd like to
see at a Labor Day
party.
Pizza, nachos, chili, chips and dips galore, chicken wings with sauce oozing all over the place — this is the kind of
food you
see at a football
party.
Every
party or event I attend always has a smorgasbord of appetizing, miniature
food as far as the eye can
see: fruit, cheese wedges, veggies with dip, and a meat tray.
Just
seeing it and touching the worn cotton fabric - it all reminds me of walking into her warm house full of yummy smells and soft hugs on Christmas, and
seeing this tied around her waist as she prepared a
party full of
food in her kitchen.
When my oldest started Kindergarten, I was distressed to
see that many of the lessons of personal protection I was teaching at home were being undermined at school where candy was given as a reward, class
parties overloaded children with junk
food, and fundraising involved peddling candy and cookies.
With all the birthday celebrations, holiday
parties, ice cream and candy rewards, bake sales, and sugar - fueled after - hours events, school has started to feel like one big junk

food sensitivities, etc... but I do have a life too and it's not realistic for me to cook every single meal and socially isolate myself because I can't eat
food at people's weddings,
parties, birthday dinners, meetings at work with
food, etc....
My twins have been raised eating real
foods and while they are still occasionally tempted by the fake
foods that surround them, when they do encounter a lot these things (birthday
parties are what comes to mind), they don't gorge on them as I
see so many kids do.
When I finally got back home, I had a
party with close friends who I hadn't
seen in so long (and who gifted me with the best ugly Christmas sweater), my family, including all my extended relatives (and their adorable little babies), and, of course, all the delicious home - cooked meals / other cultural
foods I could only find in my town.
I know that there are many craft link
parties and blog hops, and I have
seen some related to
food, mommy / lifestyle, and fashion.
I'm excited to
see a
party with both
food and craft options!
