Fortunately not every dashboard warning
light means that you need to immediately rush over to our service department to
see what sort of repairs are needed, and some of them are nothing more than
notifications.
We appreciate the blind - spot warning system
notifications in the front doors opposite the side mirrors instead of in the mirror itself; it's easier to
see in all
lighting conditions, and the brightness is adjustable in the customization menu.
I don't
see any REAL evidence of a
notification LED, as the proxy /
light sensors can be mistaken for just that.
To the left of the front facing camera is a small LED
light, which for now I've only
seen turn on when the device is powered up on a re-start, as all
notifications at the time of this review are actually shown on the top left corner of the display.
Here's just a snapshot of the different ways you could use them: Remembering to drink more water;
Seeing how many steps you take in a day; Protecting your home from intruders; Visualising just how well you sleep at night... All of these actions can be viewed at a glance with the easy - to - use smartphone app and you can choose exactly how you want to be notified of what's going on, whether that's by push
notification, text messages, sms, email, phone calls or even just simple sounds and
lights on the mother device itself.
Even if you move your wrist, the screen will not
light up now, and you won't
see notifications.
Other features include more accurate time, mood
lighting while charging, and a new gesture to
see the full watch face without dismissing the
notifications.
In the right
light, you can make out six of them (including the
notification LED), but the only one you
see most of the time is the regular front - facing camera.
You also have the option to tweak the width and transparency of your edge
lighting effect to
see how dramatic and obvious the
notifications are.
Above the display is an orange
notification LED at the top left, which unfortunately isn't bright enough to
see unless you are in a poorly
lit environment.
The Edge takes advantage of its curved display by
lighting up the sides of the screen with a colorful animation for new
notifications, and Lopez was immediately envious when he
saw this.
With the edges comes some additional features, like nightclock, a news ticker, the ability to
see notifications, People Edge, and edge
lighting.
In such situations, you will not hear any sounds, nor
see the screen
light up due to some
notification.
The indicator
light glows green (
see picture below) when the i705 is charging in its cradle, flashes green when the device is in range for wireless transmissions (red when you're out of range) and flashes red — only faster — to notify you of incoming e-mail and other alarms and
notifications.
Once the
notifications are read or
seen this
light stops blinking.
But if you don't interact with them for some time, the next time your phone screen
lights up, you won't
see those
notifications.
While storming through San Francisco's uncharacteristically sunny streets, I noticed Android Oreo's
lighter notification background is easier to
see in direct sunlight.
The
notification light is one of my favourite aspects of Android, and I enjoy
seeing clever implementations like this.
The Nexus 6P has Ambient Display, which I prefer a lot more as it actually
lights up the phone in a black and white mode as
notifications come in, allowing you to
see incoming
notifications without powering on your screen.
Basically: you can
see all of your phone's
notifications on your wrist, send messages or perform Google searches with your voice, or do things like control your smart
lights with one of the many apps that have been developed.
When Edge
lighting is set to «Always,» you will
see the Edge screen of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 +
light up for every
notification.
Now, we can reveal Smart Glow is actually much more than just a
notification light alternative, though we will only
see its full potential unfold in the future.

Once the
notifications are read or
seen this
light stops flashing.
So much of our «need» to engage with our phones exists in that moment we
see it
light up with a
notification — suddenly you're missing out on something and «what if it's important» or «what if it's an emergency» or «what if someone needs an answer from me» or... you get the picture.
An unique design aspect with the Z8 is the inclusion of a
notification light integrated into the chin of the device, similar to what was
seen with the OPPO Find 7, but in a slightly different implementation.
The
notification light can be well managed, and button functions too can be altered, just like what you
see in CyanogenMod.
There are also some nifty design features you won't
see anywhere else, such as the nifty little LED
notification lights that correspond with Google's colors and are integrated into the phone's edge.
