seen author friends succeed on both sides.

The first book of the Almost Cool series had already been translated into German by a
friend of the
authors and I could
see it was doing pretty well on Amazon, so thought it would be a good lead - in for the second book Almost Cool Girl 2 and the spin - off Diary of Mr. TDH.
What pushed me over the edge was a post by another
author who admitted to not having received or read the email but, based on what they were
seeing form their
author friends, Amazon was once again resorting to dirty pool and must be stopped because, duh, Amazon is evil.

It's heartening to me that many of my progressive

authors see that 1,000 copies of their books sold in the first few days and tell all of their other
author friends.
On the Goodreads website, users can add books to their personal bookshelves, rate and review books,
see what their
friends and
authors are reading, participate in discussion boards and groups on a variety of topics, and get suggestions for future reading choices based on their reviews of previously read books.
However I'm also
seeing some
authors, like my
friend Doug Dandridge, who are still managing to break out as indie
authors.
I haven't
seen friendships strained for asking, especially since successful
authors know very well what it takes to get a book published and it sounds like this
friend admires her work to begin with.
Immediately I made a Facebook
author page — I'd advise any new
author who already uses Facebook to do this, as your
friends will not want to
see your book posts all the time, and might even end up hiding you from their news feed.
I did ask two fellow
authors /
friends if they have ever actually
SEEN the non-renewal box and neither one ever answered me.
It's refreshing to
see that 58 % of
authors had no help and an additional 21 % had only unpaid help from
friends and family.
