If the
best movies aren't
seeing wide
release, the question we must ask ourselves is whether the
best movies are actually the
best movies.
It's one of the most arresting, affecting science fiction
movies of the last few years, and certainly one of the
best films to
see release in 2018 thus far.
A Farrelly brothers
movie is always worth
seeing, too, even if it doesn't have a chance of making the next American Film Institute list of 100
best comedies («There's Something About Mary» was No. 21 on the just -
released list, and deservedly so).
It doesn't seem like that's something which can be easily shown in the brief format of a
movie trailer, but as we get closer to the August
release date, we'll undoubtedly
see a clip that
better shows what's in store for us.
In 2013, Director James Wan (
Saw, Insidious)
released The Conjuring; a
movie that I would venture to say is one of the
better Horror films of the past decade.
It definitely has a
good bit of the melodramatic flair you'd expect of a
movie released in 1950 — you can
see an example in the clip below, where the main character is confronted by her fiancé — but all the same it has a level of emotional sensitivity that quite surprised me.
This TV spot first aired during the MTV
Movie Awards last night, and it's a
good sell, but I hope we
see a bit more as they build up to the
release in June.
Indeed, the studio have already set the
movie for a May 2014
release for «Belle,» in part to try and replicate the impressive success of «
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,» and in part because there are internal worries that between McQueen's film and TWC's «Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom» and «Fruitvale Station,» there are too many films with black leads for «Belle» to get traction (We'd argue there's room for them all, but you can
see the logic, given the Academy's tastes).
With its opening week
release in no other format expect IMAX and / or 3D, it is clear that the powers that be at Universal are making a statement, one that says that the
best way to
see the
movie is in the biggest way possible.
If all goes
well, maybe the
movie will get
released on DVD and we'll all get to
see how it worked out anyway.
Traditionally, January is the graveyard of most new
movie releases, so it's a pleasant surprise when we
see an entertaining,
well - made and historically interesting film, and it's still mid-January!
The
good news is that Sing Street just recently landed a spring
release date on April 15, so if you've been desperate to
see this
movie ever since the rave reviews started pouring in from Sundance, you only have to wait a little over a month before you can check it out.

good comedy, so it's a relief to
see a film like «We're the Millers» arrive in theaters, because although it's not as funny as its behind - the - scenes talent might suggest, it's one of the
better comedies
released thus far.
At the very least, it's
good to
see that not all mainstream
released movies are aimed solely at teenagers.
As the year comes to a close and moviegoers start thinking of awards, there is no clear favorite for the
Best Picture Oscar, but a general acknowledgement that 2013 has
seen several first - rate films, from major studio
releases (Gravity) to small independent
movies (Nebraska).
2018 looks to be packed with spin - offs: It will also
see the
release of the Han Solo standalone film — which is about to land its female lead — as
well as another Fantastic Beasts
movie.
Parents would be
well advised to
see the
movie prior to taking older family members, or await the home video
release, which will allow for
better control over the viewing experience.
If they actually make an effort to promote «Tron Legacy» and it's a halfway
good film, people will go out to
see it, but if the
release date comes and goes and you don't
see boo about the
movie on tv, of course tickets sales won't be as high as they otherwise might have been.

released so far this year, but Upstream Color may just be the first «must -

release is The Amazing Spider - Man 2, and while I normally avoid
movie tie - ins for
good reason (they're usually atrocious), I have to admit that after
seeing this latest gameplay video (that swing mechanic!)
But with a
movie release in 2016 as
well as a major expansion called Legion, the numbers definitely
saw an increase.

see which of all the different games have been the highest rated and most critically acclaimed.
