As I think about it, I've
seen hackles up mostly during play or when a dog is barking at visitors or another dog.
She wasn't sure what I was talking about until
she saw the hackles up on his back, SADIE calmly resting with me while OBIE shook it off.
She knows me well enough to trust that I knew something was wrong and we needed to get him and was convinced when
she saw the hackles up and a «SHAKE OFF».

I don't
see anything that is clearly a personal attack, though I think you and Gary both get your
hackles raised a bit quick with each other at times (that is to say I think both of you at times don't give each other the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't an attack... and EQUALLY, that at times you both feign innocence to remarks that were perhaps a bit edgy).
But every time I feel my scientific
hackles start to rise, I turn a corner and there's a reminder, either written or manifest in diorama form, that everything I've
seen is merely a theory, a possible scenario, a best guess.

Of course, when she
sees a squirrel to chase, it's hard to tell if those
hackles are raised in excitement or aggression cuz she would probably try to tear one up from limb to limb if she ever caught it.

If you can't
see that, i suggest you take some very basic science classes at the local community college rather than jabber on about scepticism and
hackles and the like.
Stiff postures, lip licking, raised
hackles, yawning, intense stares, high and rigid tail wags, and whale eyes (
seeing the whites of the eyes) can be warning signals.
