Bryan Thomas, a spokesman for the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said it was investigating the
fatality to
see if the autopilot system was to blame.
That said, when you figure in statistics from the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration that rank Florida second in the nation for traffic
fatalities, and take into account Florida's propensity for severe weather and the above average rate of property damage claims that result (flood, wind, and hail damage, for example), it's easy to
see why insurance providers in Florida aren't quick to give any handouts.
