What Worked: I'm a big fan of «Wallace & Gromit,»

in a fantasy world of birds.
So three cheers for Megamind for saving us from the dumbed - down, dopey, or straight - up boring animated children's

in and out of theaters this year!
So yes, unless what I
see tomorrow is quite a bit different than any other
film I've ever
seen in the format or a whole lot different than the trailer, hen you're right.
But that hardly matters; because after
so many
films these faces become embedded
in a world we have
seen unfold across a decade's worth of cinema.
It is
so unknown, that one of his biggest fans, didn't even realize that this
film was based on a story by Dick, until I
saw it
in the credits.
I first
saw the beautiful Giovanna Mezzogiorno
in «Love
in the Time of Cholera» where she was excellent
so I decided to
see this
film because of that.
Supetube, I think what I've discovered about Mann's
films (and PE was the first
in which I was hyperaware before I entered the theater
so it helped
in digesting the
film) is that my knee - jerk reaction is to
see them as technically accomplished but strangely hollow.
This style is fairly new
in cinema and has really defined the 2010s era, to
see it combined with something that was
so relate - able made for a very special
film.
If nobody had been
so adamant about making this
film «about» Diane Arbus, it would be a perfect story about how an uncommon woman, living
in the lap of luxury and perfection, discovers her own capability to
see beyond the shape of things and boredom that privilege means.
The Rider is the best
film I've
seen so far
in 2018 (with the caveat that there are many months to go, of course).
The best performances lie with the supporting players (aside from Umbers, who's
so dull that you'd think he was one of the many statues you
see throughout the
film), and the finest one comes from Tom Wilkinson, playing a twice - divorced man who sets his sights on Stella, knowing full well she'd be
in it just for the money.
Good things tend to come when Michael Winterbottom works with star Steve Coogan (24 Hour Party People, Tristram Shandy, The Trip),
so we're happy to
see Coogan starring as infamous British pornographer, club - owner, real estate developer, multi-millionaire, and
so - called «King of Soho» Paul Raymond
in a dramedy that spans decades and includes scenes shot
in black - and - white and color, constantly changing to match the
film styles of each period.
There is a lot one can unpack
in explaining the history behind how this
film made back
in 2006 is just now being released, but I
see no need to really do
so.
